Wink Back after a long time out!

Hi Folks,

I have been away for a long time (5 years)
I used to own a wrx bug eye, which i turned into a 330 bhp car. Loved it to bits but had to sell it to fund a flat purchase.
I have been pining to get back to a scooby since. Owned an alfa gt v6 which was nice but just not an scoob.
However i am back and on sat I pick up a blob eye sti (2003) with prodrive pack fitted at the factory.
It looks lovely and is standard.
I am just wondering if anybody has any advice or things to look for when i go to pick up the car on sat? Any common faults?
In addition is there any easy first mods you would suggest to the car- air filter change?

Thanks folks

Chris

Thanks Jay, saw it and jumped on it.
Not many decent ones up in scotland for a decent price. For all my cars i have had to travel down to london area so was a nice change lol

Anything i should look for problem wise when i give it the last look over. Struts made no noise when dropping gears and from cold no piston slap.

The 2.0 engine is strong isnt it? At 68k I hope it has plenty of life in it!! Fingers crossed.

For some reason I am really nervous about picking the car up on sat. I just hope it is a sound one......the garage is putting a years MOT on it and getting a one month warrenty for major mechanical fault. Surely this would be enough time to discover any fundamental faults? Cheers guys, guess I just need my mind put to rest a little!

Has the cambelt been done in the previous history and isn't it around the time its due for a clutch change? (though some are still ok as my old WRX was still perfectly healthy at 70k).

Im not scaremongering here so dont get me wrong but i bought a similar blob sti 15 months ago with full dealer history and 70k.
Bodywork was good and drove really well.

https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444...es-6250-a.html

Its currently away having a forged rebuild as we speak so its a keeper for me considering what im spending on it.

POST 12
https://www.scoobynet.com/engine-man...-question.html

If i were buying one today i would insist on a compression or leak down test before i handed over my money.
if they refused i would walk away.

4-5K rebuild or £100 leak down test.

you asked if there is anything to look out for....... this is just my experience.

good luck

siv

good advice if theres nothing wrong the garage should do the test if theyre confident their selling a good car. i also have learnt from previous experience and your handing over alot of your hard earned cash. very nice specimen though fella.

Wow that would be the ultimate nightmare mate

How the hell would i go about sorting a compression test?

Should the garage do one for me?

Cheers guys

Speak to these guys

http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/4436.html

Up in Glasgow I think, these may be able to arrange something for you.
Very well respected tuner I believe.
I would not ask the seller to perform the test imho.

Good luck and keep some money aside just in case.

Brilliant cars can be bought fairly cheaply but it's keeping them on the road that really costs the ££££

Yeah I have used Andy a good few times in the past, good guy.

Cheers mate I am going to email the garage asking the following

Hi,

Quick question, you may may have ask Ian for the answer!

Has Ian performed a compression test on the engine since taking stock of the car?

If not would he be able to peform one for me?

You would be best off getting a mobile mechanic who has the equipment to do the tests and taking him with you to the garage to carry out the test, do not trust a car salesmans mechanic to put your mind at rest, sort your own test out that way you know the figures given for each cylinder is correct at 68000 miles I would say that the clutch would be past it's best if it hadn't already been changed so be mindful of that and check that the biting point isn't too high. Also check the boot, sills, and around the engine bay for any sign of accident damage as 7/10 of these cars hide a naughty history.
