PPP question.
I found out that my 2004 wrx wagon has had the Prodrive kit fitted from nearly new, but it's now got a K&N Apollo intake system fitted, if this wasn't fitted at the same time, ( which I'm thinking wasn't ), would this make any difference to the ecu mapping the has been done via the prodrive kit.

Yes.
If the car hasn't been mapped for the induction kit it may well have been running lean.
Go back to the original air box configuration and get a health check on your engine, if your lucky and everything is ok refit the induction kit if you wish and get it remapped straight away.
The standard airbox with an uprated panel filter in my experience is good for 360-380 bhp.
The standard airbox is retained and not altered as part of ppp.

I'll have a look, and maybe give it a clean.

Yes and it's a bit on the rich side but speaking as someone who had a remapped WRX before, it's a pretty good map imo, got some nice midrange pull which is where my car lives when giving it a little, stays on the boil nicely in third on the kind of roads and speeds I like to have a play at / on, nothing mental but making good progress.

A compression test or a leakdown test is the only way you will determine any damage to your internals.
I chased a p0302 misfire code for ages and gave in to a leak down test in the end.
Turned out that i had virtually no compression in cylinder 2 !
8 valves were fcuked
2 pistons had the glaze stripped off them and one cylinder bore was out of shape.
Its currently being forged as we speak so every cloud has a silver lining
mahle pistons 0.5 oversize
manley rods
acl race bearings
supertech inconel valves
cosworth gaskets
arp 11mm head studs
vf43 turbo with 10k miles
bob rawle remap
so from my own experience DONT run a subaru with a induction kit without remapping.
and DONT buy a subaru without budgeting for a rebuild.
i took a chance on my sti knowing that the previous owner had run a roger clarke induction kit without a remap but i got it at a good price and it was at the kind of milage that the engine was due a refresh anyway.
do your own research and make your own mind up is what i would say.
i will end up with a nicely forged sti capable of a reliable 450-500 bhp with sorted suspension and brakes for between 10-11k in total
plus the added bonus of knowing the complete history of the car !
and that to me is priceless
