Default No noise!!

Evening all. after hearing people advice on the hks mushroom airfilter i have taken it off and put the standard box back in. The check engine light did come on but after 2 mins it went off i guess this is normal.

Anyway the question i have is, when it had a mushroom filter on the car makes really loud chattering/dv noise but now it hardly makes any noises at all. is this normal??

Is any selling a dv? A scooby without any noise is like Megan Fox without ***** just isnt right!

thank you

The resonator is inside the wing.

What do you have? Assuming classic? resonator is in the inner wing, if you follow the airbox the pipework should go into the inner wing and then back out, this pipe has a resonator on it. Unless you have an early car, in which case I think they were in the engine bay. I think it's a wheel liner out job to get it out, then either modify and refit or get a proper pipe/ducting. Should be doing mine next weekend.

I think it is more the type of question.

Some questions, especially by newbies such as yourself, do tend to be a little juvenile and to be honest, rather pointless.

'I want my car to sound like a rally car.' How do propose you do that when rally cars share very, very little with the road going Impreza. They do not make noises for the fun of it. The noises come from the seriously high boost pressure they run.

I think most users on here would prefer that the owners of the dying breed which is the Classic shape Impreza, keep them standard or modify them properly. Me included!

I don't want it sounding like a rally car.. just that with the hks it sounded quite nice but I didnt want the hks to cause damage to the maf as some suggest it would. Just simply wanted to know if theres any alternative way to achieve it.

You didn't want the HKS to cause damage but are willing to fit a DV?

Nothing wrong with the resonator delete if done properly, it won't do any harm to anything and will just give a little more noise, from what I've heard it's not crazy but noticeable, you'll see it mentioned on all of Andy Forrest's upgrade packages, I think it's fair to say he knows what he's doing.

In theory yes, as there's a potential the car will run lean, they certainly provide zero benefit so not worth taking any risk, getting a standard recirc dump valve (or refitting it if you already have one is the best idea)

Why not go down the BMW route, get a CD with engine noises on so you can pipe it thru your stereo.
