manual engine light reset

Hi there
My name is Gerrit from South Africa.
I drive a 2001 WRX ,my engine light came on after doing a bit of hard driving,after starting the car for the third time the light has dissapeared, what i want to know from you is if there is any way of reseting the ecu manually (except for using the select monitor or disconecting the battery).
