Default Zinc plating

I'm swapping out my suspension and while I'm there breathing some new life into the hubs, trailing and lateral arms etc. It seems a shame to refit the old nuts as they look tatty so I'm looking for somewhere that does zinc plating ideally close to Watford but I'm happy to post. Needs to be a low volume plater as I'm looking at a few dozen nuts and bolts at most.

Cheers

What about cold galvanising? You can get a paint that does the job.

Or find a bolt and nut stockist and replace with new BZP ones?
Can any be replaced with stainless?

Does the paint not alter the tolerances of the thread - apparently zinc plating doesn't

I'm fitting stainless where I can but some of the bolts are quite specialised and the best I can do is replace them with new subaru ones which will only go the same way and probably cost a lot more than plating them

I'd imagine that the paint would alter tolerances, yes. But the plating can only be carried out on clean, bright metal anyway, so new ones may be the only way.

An acid dip prior to plating would create that though surely

I can zinc plate them for you , we run a plating company in northampton , the chances are that there already zinc plated so as pointed out above the old plating will be removed in hydrochloric acid and then replated , we can do zinc and clear (silver finish ) zinc and black (black ) or zinc and yellow (irredescent finish)

If you want to drop me a pm with a few pics I'll give you a price , zinc is cheap though tbh so don't expect a huge quote

be very careful where you use stainless steel as its brittle and doesn't take kindly to being stressed........

It's been used for stuff like mounting the brake hose to the strut but the high stress stuff are the bits that will be plated.

Yeah can do them too , anything that needs masking off we can do that too , we use a painted on lacquer for masking and dissolve it off with thinners , we can mask any bits we think need doing , just drop me a message when your ready and we can sort it out for you , we do a lot of this sort of thing , restore old cars and bikes etc , where parts are not replaceable so it's no big deal

Cheers

i work in the food industry as a e/m engineer.we have to use stainless in every application machine wise.our machines are under lots of stress ,pressure etc.we do have stainless up to 10 so do have a little bit of give.its not to say we dont get snapped stainless bolts but,at the same time our outside plant also has snapped bolts designed to take stress as hub bolts etc.i replaced every nut and bolt on my mk1 golf gti with stainless although this car is no more than a show piece.on another level every nut and bolt in the same stainless was used on my noble again more show than go although the new owner tracks the car religiously.i did point this out to the new owner and was expecting the snapping of bolts situation especially him being a aircraft tech.he was more than happy to take it as it was.i hear this all the time about stainless but, have yet to see it for myself or hear from specialists as yourselves on failures on our cars.we are in the process of trying out some new multi metal nuts and bolts with the properties of stainless and higher stress points
