Default Steering feel

Just bought a 2007 WRX Wagon GB270 which replaced a 2001 WRX Wagon PPP.

My first impressions are that the steering feel is not as good in the GB270, though this could be largely down to some crap tyres on the front.

Anybody care to voice an opinion on the difference in steering feel in the two models?

I have owned the 2001 Wagon for 7 years and I love the steering feel in it. I can tell the instant the front wheels start to loose grip. Is the difference between this and the GB270 down to tyres, the PPP suspension changes or the geometry changes in the two different models?
