Default 04 sti or 06 wrx

Hi there iv always wanted to get an impreza and just before Christmas some woman decided to pull out into my in my seat leon cupra so while im waiting for the insurance to pay out iv been looking for new cars... and impreza is what iv been saving for and with what iv saved and what the insurance should/will pay out ill be able to afford one iv always liked the blob eye but as iv been looking since the incident iv seen that an 04 sti is around the same price as a 06 wrx..... so im after opinions to what one i should get pros and cons would be great obv the -4 sti will have more power (good!!) but the 06 is newer :S opinions needed to help me make my mind up, sorry for ranting on

If you are planning to mod it, get the sti. Stronger engine. Hawk is £490 tax blob is £270 tax. They would be my main selling points for sti. 2005 blob sti would be the compromise but cost 7-8000

o6 for looks or o4 for tuning potential down the line. Would be 04 for me, I am sure that if you went for the 06 you would end up trying to get the performance of an STI at some point. Makes sense to go for the 04 STI, well that's the choice I would make if it were me.

STI,03/04 or 05 buy dependant on miles and condition, two main reasons for me, 2.5 chocolate engine and the higher tax on the 06.

Welcome mate!!!

06 WRX has the 2.5 litre engine, do some research before you buy as they are prone to headgasket problems, which can lead to a expensive engine rebuild.

04 STi would be my choice and if you can find one which is already modded, can save you a fortune in the long run!!!

I'd have an 04 STI over an 06 STI, never mind a WRX

Prefer the look of the hawk over the blob, but its the higher tax band on the hawks and the 2.5 engine that makes the blob appealing to most(except me as I have the hawk)!!

I'd prefer a 04 WRX over a 06 WRX mainly because the 2.5 engines are very unreliable it will eventually let go!

So a 04 STI easily wins this one hands down!

What is your budget?

You will probably pay alot more for a well looked after blob sti than a 06 wrx.

now the micky taking has happened, what are your plans for it? are you planning to heavily mod or keep near standard? if planning to mod alot then wrx, if not then sti. that said they are very very different cars. Drive both and see what you think.

nope, if you want to mod heavily then wrx is better option due to cheaper intial outlay. Why pay extra 4k for parts that will be junked anyway?

Out the box sti is a more performance based, wrx is more comfortable but under the bodywork their the shame shell.

As has been said before if in the future you are looking to modify it the STI will give you a stronger base to work from i.e brembo brakes,6 speed gearbox, stronger engine internals etc.....SJ.

I get where you are coming from, but realistically a STI with just Bolt on modifications can be pushed to the high 400+ region without having to much to worry about, the 6 speed gearbox can take real power and you can keep the brembo calipers and just upgrade to the two piece performance friction disc and pads brake set up,but if you flip the script and use the WRX as the base car it's another story altogether (SORRY) and that's why the STI wins every time for me.SJ.

Oh I forgot the next bit.

When we had finished our race we both got out as happens in every street race and the sti driver said what have you got under the bonnet to beat my 400bhp sti.
He was amazed when I showed him my standard lump.
I went on to race all sorts of exotica that day including porsches, ferraris and all my mates which amazingly enough all have at least 400bhp cars and I won every time then had the obligatory chat afterwards.
I live my life ten seconds at a time.....
