Default Who uses which fuel?

Was curious, my car has been mapped on vpower but wondered if Tesco momentum is as good? I allways use shell but just wondered.

My car has been mapped on v-power and I've only ever used that fuel. In theory there both 99Ron....but, not going to take the chance.

This question has been asked before, and people have said that they get better mpg off momentum. But why do mappers tend to stick with V-Power. Have a little search.

I use momentum all the time, simply because our nearest shell is about 25miles away, but my car is a completely standard 2001 wrx so no map or anything but I have had no problems at all using momentum, I don't know how much relevance this has but hey ho

Hi Dan

Previously we are used V-Power only, but after switching to Tesco, seems our wagon loves more T99

Many mappers saying,V-Power is more consistent like T99,not sure,we have twice bad batch of the V-Power,with T99 we never have such of problems

I switch between the two depending if I turn left or right from the house, no issues on either, and they're the same price here

I use momentum 99, mainly because tesco is closer to me and my mrs has the points on her club card to keep her happy

I use V-Power and have done for a number of years through multiple cars. I've never had a problem but I've heard that Tesco 99 is better in a number areas.

I wouldn't put supermarket fuel in my pride and joy even if it was free.
People say they get better fuel economy with tesco stuff but only yesterday I read a thread in which a lad was getting far worse mpg using it.

Momentum for me too. Tesco is just over the back from me and it's cheaper than Shell

I'm not sure about free but with limited mileage in the Impreza I'd far rather pay more for V-Power. It seems more readily available at service stations too.

Also, I'm lucky enough that shell is the cheapest in the area bar Sainsburys, but I'm certainly not using that! Haha.

no experience of anything other than momentum in the scoob as there isn't a shell garage on any of my driving routes. Be interested to get a mapper's view of there experiences

I'm no petrochemist (spelling?) but surely a fuel rated at 99ron should be identical, regardless of the company selling it? I'd have thought that the "rules" would govern that.........

In my skyline if i put shell v power in her i get a slight high rev misfire when second stage of boost comes in, when i use tesco i get no such problems.

A motorsport company called thorney motorsport did test on this(google) and found better results from tesco 99 than other brands, it a good read

Although a basic and naive view (on my behalf) were Tesco not one of the companies packing their fuel out with silicon a few years ago?

I've heard about that. Roughly what I was referring to above when I said that Tesco was better in a number of areas. I may try and find the link and have a read.

If you find the link post it up please. I was just curious really as there's been times I could have used Tesco but opted to hold out for the nearest shell.

Shell 99% of the time and momemtum the rest shell is closer. At one point I read shell is actually about 99.6 which was higher than Tescos don't know how true that was?

I've always mostly used momentum with the occasional V power fill up but never noticed a difference between the 2. From evidence that EVO magazine did it looks like there is little difference in power runs between them but there is proof that momentum degrades quicker than V power so if it was going to be in your tank for longer than 2 weeks say, it would not have the same octane rating then.

Mine is never in the tank that long so I just use momentum when I can.

Flick between v power and momentum depending on locality. Will bang whatever 95 plus RON in though if desperate and caught short.

Additives are used, each retailer has their own 'mix'. Look what happend a couple of years ago when many cars broke down after filling up at tesco. Didn't happen at any other retailer.

I've also read an article in which octane ratings were checked. Shell were found to be well above the 99ron whereas others (including tesco99) were either bang on their number or slightly under.

In previous cars over the years, petrol and diesel, I just never seemed to get the MPG and the performance from supermarket fuel.

Hence, V power for me all the way.

Have always had my cars mapped on Tesco99 but had no issues using Vpower on the same map.

Mapped on v power but when it ran out everywhere ,(about a year ago) spoke to mapper and was told would be fine on either of the 99 Rons so now use either. Car is good on both

I use both and no other.

I understood that T99 achieves its octane rating by the addition of around 5% methanol. Something to consider for those who add methanol to their fuel.

Therefore, assuming Shell does not use methanol then I would guess that Shell consumption should be better as the energy density of methanol is lower than that of petrol although I don't notice any difference between the two in use.
