My car has been mapped on v-power and I've only ever used that fuel. In theory there both 99Ron....but, not going to take the chance.
This question has been asked before, and people have said that they get better mpg off momentum. But why do mappers tend to stick with V-Power. Have a little search.

I use momentum all the time, simply because our nearest shell is about 25miles away, but my car is a completely standard 2001 wrx so no map or anything but I have had no problems at all using momentum, I don't know how much relevance this has but hey ho

Also, I'm lucky enough that shell is the cheapest in the area bar Sainsburys, but I'm certainly not using that! Haha.

no experience of anything other than momentum in the scoob as there isn't a shell garage on any of my driving routes. Be interested to get a mapper's view of there experiences
I'm no petrochemist (spelling?) but surely a fuel rated at 99ron should be identical, regardless of the company selling it? I'd have thought that the "rules" would govern that.........

In my skyline if i put shell v power in her i get a slight high rev misfire when second stage of boost comes in, when i use tesco i get no such problems.
A motorsport company called thorney motorsport did test on this(google) and found better results from tesco 99 than other brands, it a good read

I've heard about that. Roughly what I was referring to above when I said that Tesco was better in a number of areas. I may try and find the link and have a read.

I've always mostly used momentum with the occasional V power fill up but never noticed a difference between the 2. From evidence that EVO magazine did it looks like there is little difference in power runs between them but there is proof that momentum degrades quicker than V power so if it was going to be in your tank for longer than 2 weeks say, it would not have the same octane rating then.
Mine is never in the tank that long so I just use momentum when I can.

Additives are used, each retailer has their own 'mix'. Look what happend a couple of years ago when many cars broke down after filling up at tesco. Didn't happen at any other retailer.
I've also read an article in which octane ratings were checked. Shell were found to be well above the 99ron whereas others (including tesco99) were either bang on their number or slightly under.

In previous cars over the years, petrol and diesel, I just never seemed to get the MPG and the performance from supermarket fuel.
Hence, V power for me all the way.

I use both and no other.
I understood that T99 achieves its octane rating by the addition of around 5% methanol. Something to consider for those who add methanol to their fuel.
Therefore, assuming Shell does not use methanol then I would guess that Shell consumption should be better as the energy density of methanol is lower than that of petrol although I don't notice any difference between the two in use.
