Its difficult to explain, having had both through my hands I can honestly say I'd take a classic over a newage everytime if I was going for a sunday afternoon blast. A classic is less refined than a newage, more raw on the road and a nicely modded one just feels more focused imo.

Simple answer really, new ages are pretty much like every other car out there, overly refined and not a great deal of feel about them, also doesn't take much in the way of ability to go reasonably quickly in one either.
Where as a nicely modded classic running modest power has so much more feel about it, my Type r is a bucking bronco and extremely exhilarating to drive compared to my wafty new age, it's not so much a speed thing more a seat of the pants experience.
Classics are also getting on a bit, so good condition examples with decent mods are commanding good money.
I for one would sooner shell out £6/7k on a minted Classic Type R or RA than £8 or even £10k on a blob STi, which lets face it are headed in the opposite direction price wise.

I have had the following
1998 Sti 4 - 310bhp (VF24)
1999 UK Turbo - 270bhp (TD04)
1997 Sti 3 - 300bhp (VF23)
2005 WRX - 240bhp ish (TD04)
As a weekend toy, the Sti always wins, no question. But as an everyday car, the Newage is a big step forward. I guess it depends what you are after really. The classic prices are now always going to go up for a good one. But, rust is a real issue for the classics now and although they are more 'raw', that doesn't make them 'responsive' in the handling department (especially as all classics are now at least 13 years old). This is one area where i feel the newage really has moved on. It just feels more rigid but yet has a better ride.
If I had the money, I'd keep my WRX for every day use and then have an STI 6 RA or Type R tucked away in the garage for a weekend blast.

I can see were gear head is coming from. Iv only had 1 scooby, my current v5 type r running around 320bhp with an Andy car map, fmic etc...
But my mate has a newage blob prodrive, and as an everyday car I'd choose the newage, just for the reason it's more comfortable and a nicer place to be inside. But for a blast and abit of bum gravy coming out your pants when it doesn't warn u that it's going to twitch is have the classic

The classic shape is the iconic Impreza in the UK. Colin McRae and it being the performance car bargain of the 90s saw to that. Subsequent models have diluted the brand by being more refined, not as nice to look at and finally being surpased by the competition.
In years to come the classic shape will be the one people want and the 22B will be the only true 'classic' Impreza that will appreciate in value.
Sure the newage cars are better cars (much better in many departments), but iconic status is not about that. The XJS was a better car then an E-Type, but which commands the most money today? The E-Type had the looks and in its time was a perforamnce car bargain.... much like the original Impreza!

if you want a everyday car that is nice and refined....get a Audi/Bmw/VW/Ford etc etc, the impreza is all about driver's appeal and not about day to day running and be nice and comfy

My daily is a E90 M3...when i want to have fun I go out in the P1 !

I have a my00 with 92k on the clock,drives mint and just gone straight threw mot,it's a fantastic classic and a absolute stunning car,looking to part with it but I'd never get a new age due to what I've heard about them

Whilst I'll always love the classic, as an overall package, I still feel that the Newage is a better all round car. No dash board rattles either!

That's ur call gear head,I'm not saying the new age are ****,got enough mates who have them and love them,but personally I prefer the classic mate..... But that's my choice

After three years of Classic ownership, I'm quite looking forward to 'having' to get a new age (blob) Impreza, when the current car dies - trouble is, its still going strong and its on 90k, so plenty left on the clock.
I've used it every day as my only car, and whilst its great when your up for it, it can be a pain when you just want to get home with no faff - hit me up with some refinement!

A few months ago I sold my 1999 uk2000 in silver with 78,000 miles and full service history for £2175 which thinking about it I should of kept hold of and slapped in in the garage
Awesome raw feeling to drive nothing special but great for a drive
Have a blob now and although more refined I like it a lot more for day to day
