Classic prices??
#38
As a v5 type r owner I enjoy the upward curve the prices are going on . . I like to think I have the best version/body style (coupe) and colour combo out there and this will demand a premium in years to come
(Then again I am biased)

I think that's the key thing, prices aren't just about whether one car is better than another, it's also about how valued 'your' car is by others.
Watching prices rise (or fall less than others) is fulfilling in that respect.

This 'which is the better car to drive?' type of discussion often fascinates me.
I suppose it's the same as some people love rollercoasters, some prefer ghost trains and others stick to the merry-go-round.
For me personally I liken it to whether you prefer a Gypsy Moth, Spitfire, Gloster Meteor or Eurofighter, and whether having flown a later generation would you go back?
My first, a Cat, was a huge increase in the performance I'd been used to and I didn't think it could get better.
Then along came a classic WRX, which performed better than the Cat.
Now it's a Hawk, and I don't think I'd go back.
I buy things to make my life easier, and I'm happy to let modern technology do that, sad as it might seem to say it.
I will say though that the WRX was by far the better value imo.

I think in the next few years the classic owners will only come out for shows and weekends
Modifications will become renovation projects
We will find garages and body shops who will be good at the rusty arch treatment
Someone will make a fortune doing a copy of the rear arch replacement
I believe Subauru now supply them at £350 each so someone will do a copy of it
Power mods will be replaced woth nice under bonnet mods and then they will be replaced with originality
The classics will remain and become just like the RS at ford shows
The rest of the classics are down to £800/£1500 and will be wrote off / scrapped and broken up for parts or untastelfully modified and viewed on fb
I think even the chavs are stopping buying them down at the last couple of cruises I've been at ( yes I know I'm sad at my age ) there was only a couple of classics
Fuel cost and maintence means they are moving onto fiestas and other cheap hatches
