So much for my 'mint' car!
In the gym tonight, about 45 minutes into my workout, a couple of young lads in their early 20's came up to me rather sheepishly and asked 'is that your Scooby in the car park?' Straight away my heart sank.
Sure enough, he had hit my car when reversing and not realising it was there. Even though I deliberately parked it on it's own away from everyone else!
Anyway, here's the damage. It's a new bumper for sure, just hoping the scuffs on the light will buff out.
I asked him how he wants to play it and he wants to handle it outside of the insuracne companies which is fair enough and due to the fact that he came and told me, I have no reason to doubt that he won't pay up. He is also known by the owner of the gym so armed with his name, address, phone number and registration, I don't feel too worried!
Any idea on costs? I don't know whether to look for a used bumper in the right colour or just going for new.
Went back in and finished my workout though, even though secretly I was seriously pissed off.
My mate was there through the whole thing and he could see that I wasn't best pleased!
Sh%t happens I guess.

I had a pretty identical damage to mine (drove off tho!) obviously it depends on the garage but I had the bumper repaired and fully painted for under £200 ( think it was £180 ) The scuff on the light was polished out as well as it wasn't to deep. Good as new now. hth

Agree on the honesty part. I'm just worried that if the bill is going to be around £350 or so, that he actually has enough money for it. Although he had an iPhone so he must be minted!

Good on the lad for owning up. Hope it works out cheap to fix for both parties. Breaker definitely the way to go.
Unfortunately some bellend drove into my friend's car parked on the street near my house the other day, VW dealer has quoted him nearly £2k to fix it. No note, nothing.
22 year old lad too, he's absolutely gutted am hoping someone's cctv caught it because it's nowhere near mine.

What really happened:
2 young guys sheepishly walk in the gym & ask;
'Do you know anyone who owns the Subaru?'
'Yes' says the owner. 'It's the massive muscle bound chap over there pumping 200lb reps'.
2 young lads..................'OH ****!!'

Contact Matty B, he's broken a number 48W crystal grey blobs & hawks recently, he should have both standard & widetrack rear bumpers. Should be about £200 plus postage, any decent garage/bodyshop should be able to fit it in under an hour.

If you want to reward the guy for being honest (and probably poor), the bumper can be heated to original shape and painted for a lot less than the "insurance job" new bumper and repaint.
Depends on how **** you are and what nick your car is in.
As far as I am concerned, a bumper is a bumper, so if it is more or less the right shape and colour, I don't really care.
But I know some people like to look after their cars and give them a clean every so on etc.
Your call dude!

With Christmas coming up money could be tight.
Btw the phone could be on contract.
An off-the-wall suggestion as well - perhaps take him out for a spin as a reward for his honesty once full repayment has been made?
It's surprising what can come back if one is decent to people, as he was to you (and you to him).

See. Going to the gym isn't good !!!!!!! Sit and watch tv instead. With the car nice and safe
Seriously tho, gutted for ya. I once came back to find my scoob damaged. Only a bumper scuff, but that was enough for me to have a bad month, let alone bad day!

I'm the last 3 months I have:
Refurbished window wiper arms
Replaced damaged rear window trim
Re-painted all 4 brake calipers
Had the wheels refurbished
New tyres fitted
So it does **** me off what happened. But, as I have said, at least the guy had the decency to own up to it.

Good lad, takes some ***** to own up, I'd do it as cheaply as possible for him, must have been a long walk from the car park to come get you, I bet he was crapping himself.
**** happens and it could have been worse, so easy to just drive off and leave you £300 out of pocket.
See if you can find a decent replacement that will bolt straight on, easy enough job.
Look on the bright side, you've made a new friend that you know is a decent lad.

I must admit, I woke up feeling generally pissed off. Apart from the front end respray that I had planned for early next year (to get rid of stone chips) I had just finished all the odds and enda that needed doing. Plus I had just purchased all my service parts that I intend to fit this weekend.

As said at least the lad owned up which is refreshing in this day and age! It won't take too much to sort it out and I doubt he'll be too surprised at the bill, young people tend to have a more realistic idea on the costs of things than the older genration to be honest!

Yeah, that would have pissed me off for the month! Anyone know where I can get a good condition 01G rear bumper for the newage??
I can get a brand new pattern part painted and delivered for £280.00.

My only concern is buying said bumper and find out that it has even more damage than mine.
Agree though that a genuine part would be a better option for fit and finish.
