Default Earl 1-scooby nil

Once upon a time, my subaru had a painfully annoying exhaust rattle.
So I jacked it up and cut off the heat shield
Now it's all quiet again

That is all

Well I had exactly the same problem, so I had the up-pipe removed and replaced.
It was the second biggest mistake I have made in 10 years of Subaru ownership.
You done right mate!

And the first was? Haha

Yeah it was the piece on the near side manifold/downpipe, chopped it from the manifold flange back, quiet as a mouse now. Well as quiet as a mouse with a flat four shoved down its throat anyway

The only part of my exhaust system that has any shielding on it are the OE headers. Goes fine - track it a lot as well.
The biggest mistake I made was to take it to a well respected Subaru specialist not a million miles from where I live.
That mistake cost me about 4K and a year of total misery.
Dave at API fixed me up though

Ouch, you wouldn't believe the amount of horror stories we hear about main dealership screw ups at my garage. And sounds like that was one big screw up for 4k :s

It wasn't a dealer, so can't comment on them.
Do most servicing and simple stuff myself.
Do it right (well maybe not the first time) when it suits you.

My bad - as they say.
I should have put "specialist" or so-called or something like that.
I think if you are getting anything that needs the engine out, or to do with the transmission, you need to be fairly choosy.

Just cut the rest of it off, was still a slight zinging and it was niggling me so I did an hours ramp time before work sorting it. Must have saved a good 2kg of weight too!
