MY99 and MY00 - Subaru statement
#1
Not sure if this had already been posted...
Just dropped my MY99 in to local dealer for a clutch inspection (another story). Had asked them to look, once again, at the hestitation I get from cold start for the first couple of miles, and also at cruising speed (sometimes).
This is a thread that's gone before and a good number of owners reported similar problems.
The secretary at Jordans of Hull has just waved a bit of paper under my nose (didn't get much chance to read in detail) that was from Subaru on this very issue. Summary: after many inspections and discussions, they have decided it is a characteristic of the MY99 and MY00, thus there is no fix.
Thought you'd like to know. Apologies if this is already common knowledge.

I seem to be suffering from this a little at the moment it doesn't take away my enjoyment of the car but I do notice it.
The MY01 will have the same problem then I guess. I'm pretty sure now that my next car won't be an Impreza anyway.

Yes, its been covered but it is still an incredible statement from the JDPower Number 1 - to state that they cannot build a car that DOES NOT hesitate at 3000rpm!! To call it a feature is a DISGRACE!!
I must say that mine is not all that bad - but it IS there on a cold damp morning, together with the clutch judder!!
Subaru UK state that the Impreza is their future - well, it had better be a GOOD one!!

I was mulling over this hesitation issue as I was driving around yesterday and wondered:
i. do PPP drivers have the same hesitation, I drove an MY00 with the upgrade and it didn't seem to have it.
ii. If your car suffers with it is it worse or better depending on the weather?
iii. If you've tried using SUL + an octane booster does it seem better?
I'm not absolutely sure that I've noticed it in my 99V maybe I'm picking up on Turbo lag.

Ok, i want my 2 pence worth here, i own an MY00 turbo, now i dont know if its me but i do get a bit of judder on the clutch when its REALLY cold out but its not there all the time (think i should change the fluid for something better!) and i dont get any hesitation what so ever but then again i dont push the car for the first few miles.
Now if it affected EVERY car, which it does not then i would be annoyed, but i dont have these problems and after 11k im very happy with my car. I run my baby up, warm her up properly, fill her with sul, dont kick the *** out of her until 4-5 miles, use only fully synth oil.........
I do push my car, ill throw her into corners, floor her (even knock her down to 2nd at 80mph!!, which by the way aint recommended ) and give her a good ragging.
I am happy even thou some are not, you have to treat a turbo car differently than you do a normal car, this is the most important thing.
Regards
Tony

Agreed,
all this hesitation / judder is crap.
Scotty, I heard recent Mitsubushis have had recalls for problems, do you know any more about these?
Thanks

I think what they actually mean is that it is a typical charactaristic **** up that they do not know how to fix so **** you all who have it, what do you want for £20k?
I will not buy another But I do wish I had a reason too.
Scotty.
Subaru UK (IM) have their heads stuck so far up their own ***** they do not even know what year it is!!!! Think I'll try Mitsubishi next

Re- your comment above - I have conclusive proof that your observation bears some validity. CHECK YOUR E-MAIL

Took the PossumLink off as the car is for sale. I have the hesitation back now. I have found another cure besides the link. Replace you engine and componants with a MY98, much better car. This hesitating bag of sh!te must go.

Oooh, nice try Lewis. Unfortunately, your post was a direct response to sonu, not a deliberate wind-up, so you've made an **** of yourself again. Never mind, I'm happy to collect your award, even if naming it after yourself is a little self-indulgent.
Cheers.

Children please.........
The hesitation also affects my MY01 WRX. Although it is nowhere near as bad as it was, after 3800 miles and an ecu reset it still does it.

The clutch on my sport special lasted 1800 miles, bought last July, dealer hummed and hawed, but got the ok from Sub. UK. Now both front electric windows are noisy and the n/s front door fills up with water after washing and leaks thru speaker grill. Not trading for another next time round.

I almost got hit by 2 cars last week due to the bl00dy clutch judder: trying to get into left lane, car behind leaves a gap for me to pull into. I gently accellerate in first gear, the car starts juddering like mad, the car behind me almost runs into the back of my car, and the car that was letting me in almost ran into the front corner as he had rightly expected me just to drive into to the space, not sit in the middle of the road doing 5mph shaking
Thw car is good, but if they could not not introduced these problems it would be so much better.
BTW, has anyone come up with a perminate solution to clutch judder other than keeping the car perminately in a dry environment?

Whilst not wishing to **** upon your respective bonfires some of you guy's have lit around here REMEMBER Subaru (UK) don't actually MAKE the car - they just sell it - so if Fuji Heavy say they can't fix it don't necessarily rant at IM/Subaru (UK) - maybe their hands are tied by the factory.
I agree you should inform the importer/seller of the problems but to slag off IM over a production fault is a bit unfair.
After all if the factory can't fix it - they designed and built the flippin thing - how are IM the reseller supposed to fix it - should they polish off their crystal ball......
All the above is IMHO.......

No IM don't make the cars but they do service , repair & charge for maintaining them.
Clutches aren't "rocket science". If you have have a problem from a UK car then the UK agent should bloody well sort it out cos that is what you pay the extra for.
Rant over.
