Very Interested in buying a scooby after having a go in my friends 98 sti type R. Scared in to death, it was bicycle clips time. I prefer the looks of the saloon but having a familly necessitates the need for a hatchback. Budget only allows for the standard uk turbo model, so the question is there any differance in performance between the saloon and hatch

apparently none
except a mile or too top end for the slighty less aerodynamic shape
some say the 5 door is stiffer. cant comment too much as I have only driven my 5 door and had test drive in sti7.
my 5 door is a brilliant alrouder cant recommend one more.

Cheers Matt ,Hatchback its gonna be then . Wheres the best (cheapest) place to get a cat bye-pass pipe from. Already got the rest of the exhaust system of a sti saloon. Will it fit a hatch?

Hi toplad
Have jap 5 door,
The japanees thought that being as it is
an Estate they made it develop max touqe lower
than the saloon 2500 rpm as against 4000 saloon
rough est on revs but you get the idea, more pull

erm im not the man to ask as mine is standard uk turbo but i may be right in assuming that under body is almost identical and exhaust should fit the same year model 5/4 door.
oh and you will find the 5 door is a little more discreet as from behind it looks fairly run of the mill
hours of fun to be had when the rep in his 318i sits right on your **** in a traffic qeue expecting to blast past only to see you vanish before his eyes.
had one so astonished he kept staring at the rear decals and writing down the model number at the next set of lights.

Its funny you should say BMW , because I was interested in a 328i Sport Coupe. But having a go in a scooby made me relise what a big mistake I would have made.

Never driven a 5 door, but some say they handle slightly better due to the extra weight over the rear wheels?

Nick.

I had a 97MY 4Dr, now got a 00MY 5Dr.

The shell is not as stiff - get scuttle shake in the 5Dr.(A rear brace made a fair bit of difference)

5Dr Does handle slightly `better`, I believe its down to a closer to 50:50 weight distribution, slightly less understeer, more willing to push the rear end out......

Top car!
