Declaring Mods
Anyone know a rough idea on how much your premium will rise by declaring mods? Nothing major just re-map exhaust & intercooler. Been quoted £225 for a standard RS, just wondered what i can expect to pay if i buy the 370bhp version.

If so, then do a test quote on a number of Ins websites.
If you mean that you're thinking of buying a modded car as in a 400bhp STi then perhaps ask your current insurer/broker for a quote for a standard car with those mods.
Quotes don't have to be forced on you, and you might find that a lot of companies will keep them down just to have your business.

I'm sure Moley will be along in a bit to confirm it but my understanding is that it is based on whether or not the mods are declared but not covered (?terminology) or declared and if the car is damaged the payout will cover those mods.
I would imagine it depends on who you insure with, when I declared my PPP on my newage cars Admiral were very keen to point out that a payout would be for market value of the car with a PPP pack, whereas a quote I had from someone else (I cannot recall who it was for sure but think Admiral's sister company Bell) would not and only pay out for the value of a standard car if there were an issue.
By the way 370bhp in a Focus... that'll be fun pulling off sharply from the lights.

Mine stayed the same.
Remember if you mod it and don't declare it you will be driving without insurance. That means up to £5,000 fine and a ban from driving.

Some companies will cover the car with mods but only replace with standard parts, some (most who we use) will cover that car and replace mods like-for-like and pay out based on a modified car.

If the mods aren't declared the policy will be void, so you wouldn't get paid a penny for anything (vehicle or mods), and the insurers might even take you to court to reclaim any costs paid to a 3rd party you've hit.

So many people either don't know it, or don't to.

The insurance was quote was on confused, i entered standard RS as at the time this was what i was looking at. Then the modified one came up for sale. I will declare them but if its expensive i will be again looking to buy a standard car.
