best way to convert "well loved" spec C into cash
what is the best way for me to get money for my motor?
my loan is paid off in december, and i have my eye on an RS4... i have thoroughly enjoyed the scooby... only perhaps a little too much
i wouldn't feel comfortable offloading it to somebody unless they were extremely mechanically inclined... let's just call it a 'fixer upper'
problems:
it has been in two impacts (both below 10mph) ... caused by old biddies. one didn't put her handbrake on right, and it rolled down a slope into the back of it, and the other blind pensioner T-boned me just when she was pulling out from a junction. both fixed by insurance, had to import a new enkei wheel.
i smacked a kerb with the front wheel coming down a steep hill in the snow.
i had a big oil leak from a harsh landing. pipe got fixed.
the ?chassis rattles bad whenever you go over bumps in the road.
the steering is majorly sloppy.
the boost is faulty. it is mild and smooth, where it was once brutal and pulled like a train.
little bit a rust on bodywork.
back bumper and front splitter damaged.
and i blew the engine and had it rebuilt good times.
i mean, no-one in their right mind would buy this, right? it could be a series of relatively easy fixes, but then again, it could well be uneconomically viable.
it has been to the garage a number of times with the sloppy steering complaint, to no avail "it's fine"... but it's not, and it keeps getting progressively worse, so i have kind of given up on that... tried three different garages too.
i'd imagine it would probably be for a breaking, though there is the guilt because it is a spec c.

it sounds fcked to me.
been crashed, has all sorts of knocks and bangs and the engine was blown up.
good luck you will need it after that description.
break it or sell it cheap.

i would never try sell it without disclosure, scumbag like.
and i wouldn't call it 'crashes' exactly. one at coasting pace, and one the other car hit it at picking off pace i.e. 1st gear.
i can arrange pics, though it looks rather unassuming. looks ok... small patch of rush, cracked bumper and splitter. as i said, the main faults are hidden from view.
2005 i believe. it was terminator X's car on here. don't know what i'd take for it, as i don't know what it is worth. was just looking for advice in the first instance, as my loan is nearly paid as i mentioned and i am free to get a new car.
the engine blew something to do with a cooling fault, not because i was red lining it.

I am interested in having a look at your Spec C.
When you had your 2 accidents, where any body panels replaced ?
Where exactly is the rust on the body ?
Any potential buyer will want to know how much you want for the Spec C. Can you please give a price for the Spec C.

£14,495 at just over 3 years old:
* It didn't seem to have sold quickly
* You know what price it went for eventually
* 5 years worth of wear and tear to take into account
* the honest comments re. what appears to need doing
JDM STi's are like gold dust, from some of the comments I've seen on here, and a Spec C as well.
That'll keep the price up.
The cost of putting right what might be wrong - and what else might be wrong in a buyer's mind - counterbalances that though.
I think you have to set a price that's attractive to someone who knows their cars and can work on them, and to be blunt refuse to budge too much.
I'm saying nothing but hopefully these comments will focus you on how to price it.
You need an enthusiast buyer I think.
As it says in the original ad - most know what a Spec C is.
If you chucked it on Ebay all you'd have is an ignoramus saying 'well there's one exactly like that for 4 grand less'.

Between £7k to £9k depending on how badly someone wants it.
I really like those wheels, want them in that style at 18" but they're ****-me expensive.

£5.5K less than original asking price, 5 years ago, and with those declared 'issues'.............

I'd say that you should be closer to a decision.

It's a conundrum isn't it?
A risk-taker (in the entrepreneurial sense) would look on it as a potential bargain.
Someone wanting to part with their hard-earned cash for their next car (upgrade) would probably think long and hard.

i didn't realise you need to pay for ads, rest assured when it goes up, i'll fork out the two quid
the engine blowing was secondardy to something else failing. a water pump or something if i remember. the engine has been solid since the rebuild. JDM motorsports i think it was, not sure if they are still around, their site isn't up anymore as far as i can see.
it would be a few months away anyway, the loan i think ends in december... and i'm up in glasgow.
i tried webuyanycar when i blew the engine, and wasn't sure if i had the money to rebuild the engine. they offered 5k as a non-running car a few years ago. couldn't do it but... had to bring her back to life

i can't be car-less, so i'd need a loan approved, in the bank and ready so i can buy a new car before i let the spec c go.
i'd need a 20k loan, i don't know if i'd be approved. my first car loan was 10k, this one was 15k... but if i couldn't get a 20k loan, i'd need the money from the spec c sale to subsidise a new car.
i'll check when the loan is up, and how much i owe.

Assuming a reasonably favourable credit profile, a £20k loan on a car works out around £467 a month over four years. Much more affordable than blowing £20k outright IMO. The rate can be better if you've got an excellent profile but you'd need a 20% deposit at least.
The total cost of credit is just short of £2400.
There is quite a lot of opposition to finance on here by many, at the end of the day if you want something there and then and can afford it, what's the problem?
