Blob WRX
Hey, I'm currently looking in the market for a blobeye wrx. I'll have about 4k to spend by December which isn't a lot but it should get me one in decent condition. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for when I'm actually viewing it? The problem is I live in Edinburgh and pretty much all the ones I've seen are down south. I'm sure I've seen an online checklist somewhere which helped but I can't remember where it was. Do you guys think 4k is enough for one?
Cheers

I have just bought one for £3700. It needs a bit of exterior tidying but only has 50,000 miles on the clock.
it drives well and due to the amount that are now being broken for parts the body panels are fairly cheap.
there are alot of bad one's for under £4k tho.
bought it as a bit of a project I could use while I did it. Will probably have been just as cheap to buy one for about 6k once finished.

I bought a 2005 WRX for £4500 last month. Only has 57000 miles on the clocl but as Wilko_150 said, needs a bit of tidying on the outside.
Just make sure it has service history, then check the obvious things such as accident damage, oil leaks, rust etc.
The rocker covers may be leaking, but difficult to tell if the engine cover is in place.
You will know within 5 minutes if the car is a good one.

Definitely a lot of cars out there for £4k, some dogs, some awesome, some stock, some modified. Mine was a two owner 53 plate on 50k when I got it in Feb for just under £4k. New belts and brakes and so on have pushed it up to more like £4.6k but it's a hell of a lot of car for the money, it looks like a time capsule.
If you're planning to do any power/brake mods though I'd give serious consideration to the STi as they're available for buttons now, especially when comparing what you'd end up spending to get similar power, and the STi is a stronger base for further tweaking. That's not to say the WRX is a bad car, far from it, but the relative cost between the two now makes the STi look a very appealing car as the day to day running costs don't differ greatly; both are going to be expensive!

Thanks for the replies folks. I'd love to get an STi, but I'd already be taking a hefty shafting from the insurance companies for the WRX. £500 a year more for an sti . Also the WRX is more than enough for myself.
