Make sure you place the catch in a place where there is somewhere to mount the locking pin. Sounds obvious but easy mistake if rushed. Locking pin placement will dictate where the catch goes.

Start with a small hole for the catch and once lined up with the pin the get slightly bigger until the catch sits flush. You can adjust the height of the pin.

I've had my pair of aero catches sitting in the draw for a couple years now. I'd love to fit them, but just can't find the ***** big enough to cut into my bonnet

cheers for the pic dan, any pics of the bonnet up?

it's gonna take some *****, but gonna take my time.

LDNSTI- whats scarier, cutting your bonnet or having the bonnet flip up a 70mph on the motorway?

Looks a nice neat job that, did you use the plates or just nuts and bolts ??
We always fit the plates underneath, means you need a slightly larger hole on the inside bonnet skin though but makes fitting them easier.

Which catches are you all using? I don't want to end up with some cheap nasty ones.

Cheers Matty.
Yes I used backing plates, you'll see the hole in the underside is larger than the outer skin.
It looks mishaped because of the metal profile, but the holes are round.

Fit the pins then drop the bonnet on them, two nice dents to mark out the underside of the bonnet, then once you cut that bit out drop the bonnet again and repeat on outer skin.

I find a cold chisel and 4lb lump hammer work best for doing the cut outs, which is a tip I got off mattyB.

First thing you will notice with them is the crap quality bolts, they will rust and start rounding off

Another tip, fit the pins in the slam panel and then put a drop of paint on the top of them. Slowly close the bonnet onto them and hey presto, you've got your marks for the drill

The kits come with a template too which is vital.
You'll need two hole saws (can't remember the exact sizes), a dremel tool with small cutting disc, file, drill with small drill bit, masking tape and a pen.

Dave listen to banny on this one and DONT go for the cheap catches, get genuine Aerocatch from a decent company like demon tweaks or someone with a trusted rep, they aint much more than the cheap crap versions and def worth the extra matey.

The catches you find on ebay for circa £40 are perfectly good enough. Just make sure you order the backing plates as well.
You don't need to spend fortunes.
