Make sure you place the catch in a place where there is somewhere to mount the locking pin. Sounds obvious but easy mistake if rushed. Locking pin placement will dictate where the catch goes.
Start with a small hole for the catch and once lined up with the pin the get slightly bigger until the catch sits flush. You can adjust the height of the pin.

I've had my pair of aero catches sitting in the draw for a couple years now. I'd love to fit them, but just can't find the ***** big enough to cut into my bonnet

Yes I used backing plates, you'll see the hole in the underside is larger than the outer skin.
It looks mishaped because of the metal profile, but the holes are round.

Fit the pins then drop the bonnet on them, two nice dents to mark out the underside of the bonnet, then once you cut that bit out drop the bonnet again and repeat on outer skin.
I find a cold chisel and 4lb lump hammer work best for doing the cut outs, which is a tip I got off mattyB.

4lb lump hammer on an alloy bonnet
good idea about fitting the pins and dropping the bonnet to get a dent
these are the ones i've bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1908518973...84.m1497.l2649
just hope the quality is ok

He was pulling your leg
Another tip, fit the pins in the slam panel and then put a drop of paint on the top of them. Slowly close the bonnet onto them and hey presto, you've got your marks for the drill
The kits come with a template too which is vital.
You'll need two hole saws (can't remember the exact sizes), a dremel tool with small cutting disc, file, drill with small drill bit, masking tape and a pen.
