I brought a BMW with only a couple of days mot left, had it for 2 years with no issues. I think it could be worth it depending on the price, an mot is just a bit of paper that tells you the car is in ok Condition for that day, I would buy a car based on what was in front of myself at the time of purchase.

its not really just a bit of paper though is it, as without one you cant drive the car legally on the road and if the car he buys fails the mot its pretty worthless and the question also is why didn't the previous owner bother spending 50 quid on the mot as it makes the car probably worth 4 to 5 hundred quid more.

maybe as he knows its going to fail and need expensive repairs?

Its a 16 year old wagon with 125K on the clock and no MOT. Fitted with a chav valve and a 'boost valve' (im guessing thats a manuel boost controller), yes you paid too much at £700.

If the car was any good then the keeper would of put a test on it.

Everyone is different but I know I'm not the only person who knows places that mots can be brought that aren't up to scratch (within reason) so I would buy a car based on what is in front of me when the deal is done, I wouldn't recoment it to people that aren't clued up on vehicles.

You can also look on the other side - just because a car has a MOT, it doesn't mean that it is actually safe to be on the road.

I bought a car with a fresh MOT and it turned out the chaps mate had just given it the ticket. There was hidden rust underneath which was too close to the rear self belt points - so potentially if driving with people in the back, everyone's lives were in danger.

For something as cheap as that, sometimes it's worth a gamble.

My point being is if this car was clean and had a fresh mot its still only worth a grand.
If it was dirt cheap then yes, worth a punt but its not, its £700.

So because I change my mind (you've never did it) I'm a timewaster.....there's a few other that'll take it, and Gumtree's free as I said before

Next time (if there is one) I'll look better

yes you are a timewaster, agree a deal to buy a car and then do some research to see if its a good deal, then get told its not and pull out of deal.

the seller may have turned down offers for the car as YOU had agreed to buy it.

so yes you are a time waster.........easier to do the research first before wasting the sellers time

If body work is tidy and just needs a few little bits for MOT then I think its worth it , they are going up in value
