Removing abs from a classic
Ok basically I snapped a abs line when messing abt with my air filter today on my classic.. It's leaking brake fluid and I have NO brakes
Does anyone know how I could completely remove the abs system from the car ?

It's easy to do, just remove the abs unit and connect up the pipes, I'm going to do this to my impreza turbo soon cos I'm fitting a dccd gearbox and diff which won't work with abs so I'm going to bin that and put a water spray bottle in place of the abs unit

I'd leave it in as its now a part of the MOT and failure would just cause you grief...

Plenty of broken Imprezas out there to get the individual pipe needed, and it should be a straight swap pipe wise.
As Tony said it's best not to remove it, as they changed the MOT requirements, that if they had things fitted they cannot be removed. Not that I'd remove ABS personally.

As for failing the mot, if the abs is totally removed from the car including the abs rings etc it won't fail, I've looked into this for my dccd conversion and I was told by a mot tester that the car won't fail if the abs is totally removed and the abs light isn't on etc

What's wrong with just pumping the pedal like you had to before abs was invented? Worked just as well if not better in my opinion, I totally hate abs and I took it off my road rally car and it will be coming off my impreza shortly and the impreza type r and type ra both have the dccd gearbox and no abs and that works fine with them

DONT DO ITI disconnected mine due too one of the rear ABS rings being broken and a lot of grief to put a new one back on ,I have k sports 8 pots front and brembo rears on my classic.I was caught out by them when I put my foot down to clear a set of lights only for them to turn red on me,well I was committed to go for it when I noticed a traffic car pull up to the left at the lights that were about to turn green and had to throw the anchors on ,well they locked up instantly I tried to pump them but they stayed locked and I skidded about 50 yards to the line all red faced and embarrassed.
I rightfully got pulled over by the police who gave me a light ribbing for my **** driving and sent me on my way with my license intact and my ego shredded, but It could have been a lot worse if that road was damp or wet things could have been so different, keeping it in a straight line would have been impossible for a start and the rest you can only imagine.I know people will say Its more likely the type of braking system ive got that caused it but I had the ABS working on the same set up and have done some hard stops and never had them lock up or fail to stop where I needed to.
