I'm confused?
After reading the recent threads on here am I right in saying general consensus is that a standard newage or classic wrx is better/faster than a newage wrx sti and wrx sti jdm and that a wrx with ppp is better/faster than a wrx sti or jdm sti with ppp and a 300-350+bhp with equal torque wrx is better/faster than a wrx sti or jdm sti with the same bhp this due to the fact of gear ratios and so on?
I thought the Wrx Sti or wrx sti jdm was better/faster than the wrx in all departments? The reason for this thread is I have decided to sell my classic and was going to get a Wrx Sti or Wrx jdm sti but never considered a wrx, should I forget the wrx sti or wrx jdm sti and just get a wrx due to this being a better/faster all round car?

How is it confusing? The question is in laymans terms after reading recent threads is it correct that a wrx in all forms with ppp or modded further 300-350+bhp better/faster than a wrx sti or a wrx jdm sti due to gear ratios etc. what's confusing about that I just explained it in more detail in my original post.

I'm on about equal bhp standard, with ppp or with around 300-350+bhp as I mentioned not 200 or so bhp difference. That's like saying a Lamborghini is quicker than a mini which we all know it is!! Just some people rave about torque and gear ratio's etc and the wrx being better.

You asked if a WRX with 350+BHP is faster than a STI (with circa 300BHP). I gave a stupid answer for a stupid question. Sorry. I'm bored now. As tubby has said, go and do some research.

Did I really? Learn to read I think!! if you have nothing constructive to say or you are bored don't post a reply on the thread then isn't it!!! I asked a serious question as I thought a wrx sti or a wrx jdm sti with the same power as a wrx was supposed to be better but after reading threads some people seem to prefer the wrx due to gear ratios etc. no read it slowly and leave a grown up response or don't post at all. Simples.

You gave no indication if the STI was modified. I can't be bothered with this anymore, as others have said do some research on here (or elsewhere).

A WRX is generally considered to be a 'lesser' car; not as fast or sharp in the handling stakes. Even with PPP it's only a halfway house compared to a STI. If you want a top down list of best to 'worst' in the performance stakes I'd say:
JDM STI
UK STI
WRX
I'm excluding special editions like S202's, Spec C etc etc.

Ah right a modded WRX with 300+ bhp - then i would say yes! it would be quicker!
the guys who have an STI will disagree though, as they will throw in the breaks etc - but in a straight i would say yes it would

What is going on, if wrx is better than sti, why do most wrx owners buy the sti box, then the brembos, then the intercooler? Lol if sti wasnt better why is the parts an UPGRADE for a wrx??? Lol

I have a WRX and Steve's point is valid. The WRX will never be a match for an STI without using the Turbo, TMIC , injectors and fuel pump from an STI. These are common upgrades, but I think the OP has a point in that if the the STI and WRX on similar power and same driving skill is applied, the WRX will be the quicker car (in a straight line) due to better gear ratios and power over weight.

The late Harvey Smith (RIP) ran a 5 speed at around 460bhp in a couple of cars, but added the caveat that if your going to launch like a loon and rag the **** off it everywhere then don't expect it to last, I would add the same would apply for any gear box and the early six speeds up to 2003 are not as good as the later ones 04 onwards.
I would also add that if you plan modding to 400bhp and doing track days and drag then the STi is the better place to start, but bare in mind that the things that make it "better" like brakes and suspension you will probably end up changing as you would on the WRX.
My original intention when I jumped on those previous threads was never really to slag the STI off, it was only ever to point out a few little facts about the WRX and in particular the WRX PPP as I like so many others completely discounted it as an option because of information on here.
Then I ended up with a car that had PPP more by accident than anything else, and realised that actually 99% of the people that were saying "don't bother it's crap just get an STI" did not have a clue what they were talking about and were just spouting something "they read on the internet."
The WRX PPP is actually a cracking real world package, the combination of the gearbox, turbo and prodrive map makes for a really drivable car which has really surprised me ( and quite a few others )bare in mind i've been driving for over 30yrs and used to average around 1000 miles a week for 20yrs most of which was on country roads around Nottinghamshire, derbyshire and lincolnshire in various company cars, and a young lad has to entertain himself somehow especially when the car and petrol is free., which I think should tell you I have an idea of what i'm talking about when it comes to making progress on country roads.
The WRX has it's faults but they are easily and relatively cheaply rectified and mostly only come to light when driving in a manner that really has no place on public roads, but lets face it we don't buy these cars to pootle about in.
Change the springs or fit coilovers if you must but they are not for me, up-rate the discs, pads, lines, fluid add an anti lift kit and rear drop links and then geo by a specialist, all things that need doing to an STI as well, then go play and learn how to drive it, there aint nobody that's going anywhere on a country road except people like Ollie Clark in the Gobstopper (ok slight exaggeration but you get my drift) and I for one can live with that in my £4k shed.
