STI OR NOT TO STI
Hi
i am on the lookout for a scooby, its about time i got one rather than just toying with the idea.
i need advice on what to get, i know i want the classic shape either v5 or v6 preferably
there are two i am very interested in bot a v5 '99
one is a STI
and the other a UK spec WRX
both are similar in condition mileage etc but obviously the price is quite different.
so do i save money and go with the UK model or will i regret not getting the STI??
and before anyone mentions it i am not looking for a type ra, p1 etc as they are out of my price range.
thanks in advance

Sounds like a limited budget so I'd get a uk 1999/2000 turbo cleanest you can find and not spend anything over 2k. There is no wrx 1999 uk car.

As above no such thing as a uk wrx, if seller doesn't know what he has dont buy. I would wait and get a sti. I have a uk2000 '00' I would have waited looking back, not that the Uks can't be put to sti spec cheap enough these days.

as above my advice would be to buy from a forum, trusted enthusiast that knows what they are talking about and you can check the cars history out more as there is no such model as a uk wrx so chances are the guy does not know what he even has or is trying to pull the wool, no matter what one it is I would not go near it, my opinion anyway.
Also for me if you don't get the STI you will always just wish you had or regret it, I try to always buy STI's

I agree with the all of the guys and buy on condition and how they drive rather than spec especially if your budget doesn't reach that high. Look for good history and who and where you are buying from a Hpi check is a must too. Good luck!

cheers for your replies guys
with my budget I am able to buy the sti, just not stretch a step higher, but wasn't sure if the car was worth the difference from the UK spec car. I was edging toward the sti anyway but as I haven't owned a Scooby before wanted to get peoples advice and opinions.
anyways sti it is. from the spec it has very good service history and only few owners no bodywork etc.So the history of the car looks good so now its time to view and I will bring a friend who has owned a couple to help me out.
I know a fair bit on cars and engines but what are the things in particular that I should look for on a sti
cheers
