Default Which is the ultimate Impreza?

I've been pondering on which Impreza, from the first to the last, I consider to be the most desirable.

My only rule is that it must either be a production car from the factory in Japan, or modified and sold from new by an independent importer, so Litchfields are included for example.

I love my Blob Type 20, but wish it was a Spec C. And some of the Type RAs from the late 1990s are very tempting too, although for some reason the 22B doesn't quite do it for me. WRC cars are not included.

I don't consider myself well enough informed to make a firm decision, particularly about the Classics, so thought I'd throw the question open to debate amongst the experts on here.

So, purely for fun, hoping for a lively debate, and bearing in mind the criteria outlined above, your opinions please folks.

Thanks.

From an iconic view it's the 22B

From a drivers view probably the RA-R

I like my cars raw, so down to lightness, DCCD and silly short ratio box the classic Type R/RA wins it for me. I've not had a go in a newage but I think the extra weight would detract from the experience for me.

As an icon the 22B stands above all others. It is also the ony Impreza that holds its value!

LOL .. this will be a lively debate as everyone will have there own likes and dislikes.

The first Scoob I ever drove was the one I have owned for the last 8 years which is a classic P1.

I'm no "expert" but I have been lucky enough to have driven many different Scoobs since, from a 22b to a 725 bhp monster.

To be honest I have never driven a Scoob that wasn't good in some area. They all seem to drive, handle and pull fairly well but in my view nothing can come close to a fast classic as I prefer a raw feel.

The first time I drove my P1 (which was then only 311 bhp) was still one of the most impressive memories I have of driving a road car. The power delivery and handling were such an enjoyable experience.

As I previously mentioned it doesn't mean that a P1 is the best because others would favour others models but they are a lovely car to drive.

It'll be the 22b uk version. I had one for a while. I only sold it as I couldn't justify having something worth £25k that a £5k Impreza could do just as well.

This order (in my opinion):

1. 22B
2. P1
3. RA

Others may disagree!

If I had a choice of a mint any of the above I'd take the P1 because the 22B really belongs in a museum / glass case or very very little driving.

The RA-R is newage and as moley said, from a driver's perspective its probably at the top.

How much people have actually drove a 22b compared to even seen one?

Personally i love the p1 and 22b

But as i have a hawk that the one im going to say ats its my opinion, ok for sure theyre heavier than classics but theyre safer, also i think it looks tidy as everytime i walk away from her i always look back

When you take a 22b through the lanes on pace they feel solid but wont live with a P1 when really pushing it. The RA's feel raw and almost kartish and the P1 feels like a refined RA.
Rubber then becomes a large factor.

I've owned a P1, the uk 22b and a sti5 typeR. Everyday wise and with my level of skill the P1 was best. Pose wise the 22b. You felt that you had to be extra careful when driving around and even parking and I rarely pushed it. The typeR would possibly be the preferred choice of a very good driver who never did long trips.

Excluding the S201 of course lol

22B for me too, it's just so right.

To be fair all of the rare limited production run cars are awesome in their own right, regardless of their age/model year in my opinion, they all have that one aspect that makes unique. Classic versions are lighter/stiffer and raw power delivery, the newage cars have more power out of the box and more modern handling improvements and still lighter than the majority of their rivals.

Yeah I'm a bit (lot) of a Subaru fanboy lol

I can't believe no one has mentioned a spec-c, Will more than keep up with any other factory impreza but some burble fans won't agree

The 'Ultimate' impreza is obviously the 22b but then again you have the RA-R which is faster round a track...So how do you define 'ultimate', Seeing as a 22b will set you back around £25k and the RA-R similar if not more... IF you can find one for sale, For me the realistic ultimate impreza's are the version 6 Sti RA or any twinscroll JDM spec-C, If cash is no problem the RA-R

This is certainly very interesting, and sorry I didn't know the RA-R was a New Age - I'll do some research on them immediately, thanks.

I did mention a Spec C in my original post, but not prominently.

Having owned an RA-R and R205 I would probs say the R205. Put it this way I have had many-a Impreza TYPE RA, RA-R S204 and R205 and the R205 I have kept for two years. I had a 997 turbo at the same time and had to sell one and it was the turbo that got the boot!

CS400 and R205
