Default 2006 sti advice

Hi,I'm keen to buy a members sti. It is blob eyes white 2006 sti with 60 k miles in the for sale section. I don't know much about sti's and was always certain the engines were bullet proof. After reading some horror posts about head gaskets I am not sure how to proceed. From the poll taken it seems half of all 2006 sti's eventually have head gasket issues. Is this the truth or is it all blown out of proportion? I don't know what to do now

If it is a blobeye then its 2.0l its fine, it's the 2.5s that have problems in the hawk onwards

By all accounts it seems to be the case, trouble is the hg issue only rears its ugly head under sustained boost. So it's very hard to check for unless you have access to a hydro carbon detector.

Mine went, and its easily a £1000 plus job

So I'd buy with that in mind

Yeah if it hasnt already had a HG done then budget for one for piece of mind. Apart from that they are great cars. I was lucky enough to get one that had cosworth gaskets fitted by previous owner
