Cool

Hope no one minds but these are so gorgeous, I thought some of you may be interested?

Genuine STi key, (New Age only as the key type is different to earlier models).

(£23.00 each + VAT)

Question

Mike

They look great, but one little question before I buy one. Do they work with the MY01 WRX's immobiliser? Reason I ask was that I was tempted to get one before, but my local dealer (Anthony Betts, deceased) claimed that it would work.

Duncan

PS. Any chance to a reply to my query about the MRT uppipes - it seems tha tquite few people would like to buy them and it would be a shame to have to get them from the states.

Question

Duncan,

On the UK cars the immobiliser is part of the Sigma M30 alarm system, and as such is managed by the key fob, not the ignition key.

Mike, where do I buy these from?

Am i right to think that on STi Type Uk, these keys will work as the immobilizer / alarm is set by the sigma key fob.

Thanks

Yeah Mike

I would be interested in one depending on the confirmation that the UK STI alarm/immobiliser still behaves as normal.

This is a simple key, no encoding or chip Etc.

If your key has an immobiliser/proximity device included this would not work, (unless the key was close or you disarmed the immobiliser with the button first)?

Mike.

We have the keys in stock.

Bugeyed.

I haven't seen that query but I will ask Jase to look for it?

Thumbs up

Alex

Thanks for that. Another tarty extra to buy, although I can claim that it is to get rid of the stupidly large standard key.

Alex,
The key even though it isn't part of the standard 01/02 alarm system does still have a chip in it that enables the key to work.

I found this out why I tried to use the spare and the electrics would come on but the engine refused to play. With the key I used all the time it was fine.

10 minutes at the dealers and both keys were reprogrammed and both turned the engine on then!

Guys

Whats the final story with this new STI key. Will it work on a UK STI or not?

If not, then its a pity - would have been nice to get a key half the size of that weapon I currently carry around.

Red face

Doh.. thats weird..

perhaps I'll take my key apart later
My understanding was the only intelligence built in to the key was to lock/unlock the doors, subaru UK take the batteries out of the key so this doesn't work, the reason being to encourage use of the key fob due to the UK fitted Sigma M30..

Ah well, you live and learn - sorry Duncan.

Question

Right, I've just had my key to pieces and there is a proximity device in it in addition to the radio device (previously) used to lock/unlock the doors. So, the question has to be, does the STi key have a proximity device? Mike?

It is the radio device that is disconnected. It would look like the STi key doesn't have it in, the price is way to low.

The normal keys are about three or four times more expensive to replace.

You would also need take the STi key (if it does have the proximity check) to a dealer and get it reprogrammed for the car, at a small cost to you!

Actually rereading the thread Mike said this:

This is a simple key, no encoding or chip Etc.

If your key has an immobiliser/proximity device included this would not work, (unless the key was close or you disarmed the immobiliser with the button first)?
I guess not then... get to keep the lumpy key then!

Exclamation

This key will NOT fit UK spec cars unless it has a chip in it.

IT WOULD SEEM THEN THAT ALTHOUGH THE KEY LOOKS NICE, IT WILL NOT WORK WITH A STANDARD TYPE UK STI.

THUS......... IT SEEMS A TOTAL WASTE OF £23.50 + VAT

OK, just back from the main dealers. If your car has a transponder chip (you can see it if you look at the key sharp end forward), this key will not work.

2 options.

1) I am looking at having the key slotted to accept the transponder which can be transferred (bonded in probably), into the STi key.

2) Transfer it yourself.

Item 1 will of course increase the cost slightly but will still work.

Mike.
