Smile Hello - just drove 2500miles around europe in a classic 2000 turbo

Hi all,

Im new here,

i purchased a 1996 UK spec 2000 turbo 3 months back for a trip across Europe for £700

We drove from Warwickshire, to France, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and back home in 9 days covering 2500 miles including visiting the Nurburgring in the poring rain.
We also do the black Forrest in Germany and The San Berdino Pass.

Iv fallen in love with her, and have decided to tidy her up, iv just purchased some Ultralight 17s and ordered a new bootlid that is the same color as the rest of the car and not toolbox red. Im due to go back the the ring in 4 weeks and need a new box and some uprated discs and pads so ill get a thread up in the wanted section.
Iv been told Replacing the il pump is recommended so ill do that at the same time as changing the cam belt.

If theirs any tips or recommendations let me know.

thanks and it will be nice to get to know you all.

My classic has been going to France, a 1600 mile round trip, since 2002, when it was four years old.

Unfortunately, the old girl decided to give up and drop all her bottom-end bearings 70 miles from calais, and 170 from Zeebrugge, where I was heading.

Not having European "Get-you-home" cover, (long story), she cost me best part of £500 to get back to the Uk, where the RAC took over and brought her here.

She now lives again with a fully forged 2.5, 6-speed box etc.

She has since been over to France four times, but that period is now drawing to a close with the french government decision to phase out 98 octane fuel.

She may go one last time this summer, but it's doubtful, since it costs me THREE times as much in fuel as it does in the diesel Astra.

i've looked at that. I've been told reliably that I would lose 40% of my present power by going down to 95RON.

That would leave me with little more than I had to start with.

Sounds wrong to me, but hey......

As above. Or try ebay.

But what you DON'T do is tag your wants to the end of an unrelated thread LOL

When? Dunno, it was something I picked up on one of the living-in-france forums.

Why? Because they reckon no-one needs it.

Just remap to less boost - there is the option for a map switch with ECUtek. So you can keep your current mapping and activate an 95 ROZ mapping (300 horses should be doable with this with a good exhaust) by pressing the button of the rear window heating!

Was this 'The Great Rally' that you did??

Was contemplating it but couldn't afford it this time round, due to time off being self employed and fuel costs

Octane booster from 95 RON to 99 is a bit of a stretch too.

You need to be careful, and read he small print regarding "full EU cover

It often does not mean they will recover your car to the UK

A recovery from the south of France could cost them upwards of 3k they will simply give you the value of the car
