Terraclean - Classic Impreza Turbo 2000
All
Firstly let me say I am not connected to Terraclean or their agent in anyway I have nothing to gain and no axe to grind. The only reason for posting this is to provide information for the Subaru community as a whole.
The car, a 2001 Impreza Turbo 2000 with PPP has been in my posession since December 2005. In 2007, with 63K on the clock, it suffered a bottom end failure which required a new Subaru short motor. No reconditioning work was carried out on the heads at the time and with the engine refitted it has been reliable ever since.
In March this year and now with 111000 on the clock, the car was starting to feel lumpy and not as smooth. Although it was a gradual decline it was quite noticable. Since the birth of our son my wife hadn't driven the car for almost a year and she commented when getting behind, the wheel that it was horrible in traffic.
I had seen the item on Wheeler Dealers where Terraclean had been used to revitalise a car (can't remember what it was, a Jag I think). Edd China had raved about this stuff, respecting Edds opinion and thinkin this stuff could help me I sent off for some info. After much deliberation, centered around the fact that it looked too good to be true, I decided to take the plunge. I booked into my local dealer Lakes Window Tinting in Kendal (I say local it was still over 50 miles away).
The process was straitforward, or it was once we had managed to get a good seal on the clamps blocking the fuel returns to the tank. After 20 minutes of running at fast idle on the modified fuel it was finished. There had been no fuss and no obvious muck thrown out of the exhaust.
My thoughts following the process: Well obviously this isn't a scientific study, its purely based on my feel of the car which is always likely to be subjective. There certainly is no sudden increase in grunt, there might be a small amount of extra torque, but its the way in which the car drives, its manners are like chalk and cheese. Driving to work in traffic is much improved, light on/off throttle doesn't send it into fits of lurching back and forth and it pulls smoother when putting my foot down, pulling smoothly from low revs, 1500 in 4th.
It may be no quicker but it is much nicer to drive. I've lived with it for a week now and I believe its money well spent.

Most people Iv spoke to say this is a load of b#####s, but it would be nice to know exactly what it does & what the claimed benefits are. Isn't it just the same as a can of magic liquid you pour in your petrol tank?

would these treatments wash the bores to the point of actual damage or is there an element of lubricating content?
Back in the 'good old days' Redex was used as an 'upper cylinder lubricant' given as 'shots' (one shot per gallon) It was also used as a quick de-coke treatment poured into the carburettor whilst revving the engine. LOTS of white smoke didn't amuse the neighbours!

Update:
Two months down the line from the Terraclean process I thought an update was required. The car has done just over a thousand miles. The feel of the car is still smooth and there is a noticeable increase in urgency of throttle response. The process doesn't claim to give you extra power but just return lost power, if that's the case my car must have been missing a few horses. I've seen no noticeable change in fuel consumption, but oddly the use of v-power gives a more noticeable power increase over 97ron super unleaded than it used to.
All in all I'm still happy with the process and would consider making it an annual thing.
