As above my blob sti looks good in pictures but up close it needs some paint work. its easier just to have the whole thing sprayed but do you think it will affect the resale value. it wouldn't be a cheap job but I'm still concerned it may put people off.

I would say no if its a proper job but at 1.5-2k you would have to decide if you would make your money back anyway. If its a really good job you shouldn't be able to tell anyway IMO

get it wrapped, then if you get sick of it you can have it taken off and have another colour...

I've just removed a wrap from a 2008 r32 and after seeing where the wrap had held the water and made it riot I don't think I'd want one

How bad is the paint defect? You could be surprised what a good detail/detailer can do. Would be a lot cheaper to pay a pro detailer for the works vs a resprey

Interesting topic as I'm concidering having mine resprayed but in white (currently silver). Would a colour change (to a Subaru white, not an after market white) reduce the value?
I've also considered wrapping but I don't like the idea of any rough edges or, as above, any water holding taking place.

will get a better price for it assuming its a decent job, you wont get your money back on how much it costs you, but means the paintwork will be in much better condition than if it wasn't done.

Cheap crappy job will devalue it though

Wor kid paid 1500 for a partial respray on his 964 basically everything bar the roof.

I could get a full respray cheaper mates rates but if joe blogs walked into a reputable paint shop for a quality respray how much you recon it would cost?

that is ridiculous price if it was simply just to paint it. obviously if it has loads of repairs and stuff the price goes up. when i worked in the bodyshop i have done full resprays and got 16 hours to do them in start to finish. tbh a straight paint is a doddle to prep and paint. i would expect to pay about 1k at the most.

Same with anything you get what you pay for ! If I was quoted 1k to paint my car I'd be walking out - the work involved to get the finish required - and if they said 16 hours to do it I'd no off too !

In reply to the OP, to me yes it would devalue the car. I've no doubt that you're honest in saying it's just to tidy it up and if you were to sell it to an SN member all would be well as we'll know your car.

BUT! If I were going to see a car that had been painted regardless of colour change I'd expect it to be cheaper than the going rate for that car - for all the photos and honest people in the world I still wouldn't know if it had been done to hide accident damage or to tidy up a car that had been abused all it's life.

Just my 2p worth...

There was a few issues to sort with wor kids car but tbh 1500 was cheap for what the bloke done and his work is perfect, of all the forums I've been on in the past 3k is the norm for a proper straight up job?

why would you walk out? its not the place you take it or the price you pay its down to the man painting it. if someone is good there good simple. i no exactly whats involved in a respray i painted cars for over 10 years in top insurance approved bodyshops. i was given 16 hours because thats what thatcham gives you for doing one. hence why the motor trade is on its ****! also we done alot of work for esure which are total butchers!! like i say i no whats involved in prepping and spraying a car. to me anymore for a respray is daylight robbery

its this kind of belief that has escalated prices am afraid. maybe i think 1k is a good price because i have literally painted thousands of cars and i no what work is involved.

but if you guys are happy to pay what ever your quoted happy days for everyone i guess.

**** me £3k is an awful lot of money to paint a car, I worked in the motor trade for 20 odd years and the only places that charge that kind of money and get away with it are prestige car dealers.

Your average decent sized body shop would be £1/1.5k dependant on what wanted doing.

Personally I would look for a small paint shop where the main man lives or dies by the quality of his work and reputation, i'm just p!ssed that my old boy has retired, but the lad that's taken over is pretty good and said he'd paint the front of my blob and machine polish the rest for £500, and I thought that was a decent price.

Always makes me laugh threads like this,tbho 16 hours to do a respray is beyond a joke,so you could strip a car ie windscreens/bumpers,mirrors/trims/roof rails/boot/spoiler/bonnet/lights all round/sill covers/strip bumpers down to single components and then take care of any defects and if its around an 04 sti for arguments sake it will no doubt have numerous stone chips and car park dinks so that means high build primer of thoses areas and a flat down plus rebuilding it all in 16 hours on your own...........like **** you could unless you did a completely rough *** job and cut corners all over the place like theses big insurance only places tend to do who run on quantity not quality but tbho with there hourly rates driven down they have to.

The material cost is around 500 to me ie trade price when using top of the line materials,but my jobs don't just look good in pics or from 10 yards
