What is the best way to sell a number plate,

I have - A6 DEV

I don't know what it's worth but it means nothing to me and was on the car when I bought it,

Bad times to sell personal plates. I would keep it on the car and look to sell when the economy is better.

Being an older style plate means it can go on a lot more vehicles as you're not aloud to put a reg number that's newer than the vehicle on. I'm sure it would be worth quite a bit to someone called DEV. I think plates like this normally go for £1500 + in good economic times.

I'm no expert at all mate, it's just i have looked at plates and prices in the past on various sites and older low digit plates that spell names or common nick names can fetch money from the right buyer. You could bung it on ebay or contact a specialist number plate seller. Some buy them and some will sell or auction on your behalf.

I get the feeling this chap would tolerate a bit of faffing about if he got a 4 figure sum for a plate he got with the car . I also got a personal plate with my car. Mines an 07 year but i found the same plate but a 10 year on a number plate site. They priced plates up to £1500 but this was POA One things for sure tho, there not worth as much as they were in the boom times.

It's on my dads maserati 3200gt he bought the car cheap as it had a few problems, the plate means nothing to him so we thought sell it.

Never thought it would be worth a four figure sum

ebay. "buy it now" for £1200, or "best offer". Then just wait and see what happens.

If the car's off the road I'd consider getting the plate changed and put A6 DEV on retention. Any delay or pfaffing about won't affect your ability to sell it quickly (or get the 3200GT on the road).

I'd certainly advise doing this asap, given an experience both me and the former owner of a car I bought went through re. plate transfers, though you shouldn't have the same problem but be warned that the new V5 can take up to a month to be sent to you by DVLA, and you need that to tax and insure the car (unless you get to know the new Reg. before the V5's issued ie. it goes back on its original plate, if it had one).

One thing - when you advertise don't forget to mention whether the £80 transfer fee is included in the price or not.

GLWTS.

A quick visit to your local DVLA office should sort it.

Hopefully you'll sell it for enough to cover a few bills and more.

Get it off the car and on retention though.
I know a prospective buyer would probably wait for the paperwork to go through but you'll have less hassle and chance of them getting cold feet if the plate's available immediately upon sale.

Yes it would certainly fix everything on the Maserati and leave some change for fuel lol.

We never thought the plate would be worth anything when we bought the car

Good luck with the sale mate. What a result that would be if the plate that came with the car funded it's repair.
