Default OBD2 Reader

I'm looking to get one of these to use with my Samsung S3/S4.

Can anyone advise the difference between these two OBD2 readers as they appear to have the same description but look different?

Any recommendations?

I assume one of these is all I need along with a phone app to work?

I have the 2nd one too, although I when I placed my order it looked like the first one. Works faultlessly with my Note 2 running Torque.

They are both the same and regardless of which one you order a different looking one may come, but as long as it works.

I very much doubt it, the only ones which work with the iPhone are the Kiwi ones (wifi) and they are quite a bit more.

Paste this in the eBay search.

G77 WIFI ELM327 Wireless Auto Scanner Adapter Scan Tool for IPhone Ipod A@2

It says it works with iPhone, but you'll obviously need the app to go with it and torque is android only. iPhones best equivalent is dash command which comes with a hefty price tag if purchases through the App Store

I have now bought one of these (the second one possibly!) and for those querying whether it works with the iPhone, I have both an iPhone 4 and a Samsung S3 at present and so will see if I can get both to work over the weekend - assuming it turns up on time and I don't have to pay anything for an iPhone app.

Ultimately, I'm hoping to use it with the new S4 when it turns up.

OK Guys

It's now turned up with a mini CD with loads of different folders of software but no clue as to what the software is for or which is relevant, if any, as there is no way to connect the Reader with the PC.

Any ideas or suggestions???

I got a cd with mine mate but didt bother with it. Have you tried connecting it via Bluetooth in the car?

Never used the disc , dont know what its for !

Just plug in the dongle , search for bluetooth device on mobile , (and enter pairing code ?) and go to the app .

Recommend setting up a profile of your car (weight , engine CC ) as it keeps everything pretty accurate.

yeh don't bother with the disc. just download "Torque" to your phone.

And once plugged into the car, pair it up to your phone the same as any Bluetooth device.

Yes, it works on the S3 using Torque Pro Lite initially but, as others have identified, no luck connecting to my iPhone 4 with the Bluetooth.

I have now bought the full version of Torque Pro but not had a chance to test it.

I'm guessing the software will allow me to load onto a laptop for diagnostics but no idea as to what the many options do. It will be interesting, with the iPhone failure to connect, to see how a laptop will Bluetooth in.

Also, didn't realise that the OBD2 socket is accessible directly from the footwell and so the plug projects out. I thought it was a socket behind the panel. Makes for easy connection but, equally easy to knock it out.

Do you guys leave it connected permanently as it seems power is always on.

I have one of these and nothing appears to happen... I assume it's literally a case of plug it in & connect? nothing to power it up or similar?

Just plug it into the OBD2 port (mine is openly accessible under the steering wheel) and then a light will come on.

The lights flash once you have connected it to your bluetooth phone with the ignition on.
