Default Looking for my first impreza (02 sti)

Hi all,

I'm on the look out for a 2002 sti I've been at taken one for a test drive at a overpriced dealer locally... Wow what a machine, great looks handling and power, they are so hard to find within my budget which is a shame and the ones I find are all a hell of a long way away.

The power didn't seem too apparent until around 4k I could feel it come in the a huge thump between there and say 6k that right? (Non ppp model)

If anyone's thinking of selling up I'm in derby cash ready for the right car at the right price.

P.s anything these are known for having issues with?

Thanks

Wheel bearings and synchros are possible problems.
First is an easy fix, second isn't.

What mileage do the synchros tend to fail? Whats a average new box or recon cost?

If you looking for a bug then hold out for a prodrive style, one of my fav cars, I almost bought one but ended up buying a blob wrx instead, no regrets but changed that for an sti when I could

Drive a jdm sti before you buy, £6300 is over the top in my opinion.

I had no issues with jdm on insurance, was same cost for me but then I had owned a uk impreza for 3 years, depends on broker as mainstream insurers load them. Not sure of differences on bugs, but blob onwards are twinscroll so a different animal.

Different turbo, gearing, more agressive cams, larger port heads, forged pistons, higher rpm redline ...on a jdm bug sti vs uk equivalent...

So yes, theres a difference...
