Well it had to happen...
The wife came home from work last night and informed me that "They didn't have any posh fuel so I put normal in".
It had a 1/4 tank of V power in it and she's put £20 worth of 95 in on top. Will it be ok, or shall I go and get an Octane booster to stick in it and top up with V Power?
Its an '03 WRX PPP.
Cheers,
Scott

I'm sure a few independent garages in the UK are not adverse to this practice, I mean mistake.

Tbh I would rather run it on 95 ron than octane booster.
I've read far more spurious arguments, discussion and hearsay over octane booster than I ever have about 95 ron in an Impreza.

95 is fine, in fact, old 91RON 2 Star fuel would have worked fine too. All you have to do is just not put any boost through it and drive gently and the ECU will not make any changes. It needs to detect knock before it does and driving off boost will not cause knock.
Thus, drive gently and let it run down to the light +20 miles or so then a full tank of V power and you'll be fine. As long as you put in over 50 litres you should be fine, but to be safe just drive sensibly until your next full fill up of over 50 litres and you can then give it some.

Brings back a memory. I remember when te wife borrowed my car to drive up to Leicester to see relatives. On the way back she went to fill up with her sister. She rang me from the garage to say that my fuel filler cap was broken as it wasn't allowing the Vpower nozzle in. I told her that's impossible - a fixed diameter metal hole cannot be faulty. But not to fear she said, her sister held the internal flap inside the filler neck open with a pen and she had squeezed in a good £40 of Vpower in despite the 'malfunction'. I rang my brother in law up straight away and diagnosed the fact that she's filled my car withe Vpower diesel and he sorted her out. AA van came before any damage was done. I was remarkably calm.

And you're most likely to get knocking/pinking when you're in a high gear using low revs and you're trying to accelerate or go uphill...
