Get a WR1,be different,better interior,driving lights,chrome grills,up-rated engine, more than ppp and JDM,great colour,18" Prodrive alloys.

It goes like this when you choose an STI (04 first)
JDM over WR1 over Standard UK STI
For anything else its>>>>
JDM wide track over UK wide track over everything else.

Isn't the WR1 a UK special edition based on a JDM STi ?
I may be wrong but I thought that the WR1 is based on what most people refer to as a version 9 STi (widetrack blobeye) and was launched in the UK at a time when the STi Type UK was still a version 8 without DCCD ?
I have read somewhere that it has the version 9 cross drilled crank as well ?

The WR1 was based on the Solberg edition car, production run of 1000 of which 500 came to the uk.
Had 265ps out of the box, the only difference between the Solberg and the standard UK car was the interior, the paint (plus the badges), the wheels were antracite and not gold (prodrive sold them all off including the RE070 tyres) and the A-DCCD.

I only have internet sources to go off but they claim that the 'Solberg Edition' cars which formed the basis for the WR1 were 2004MY JDM STi's ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_..._generation%29
I do have the engine out of one sat on my workbench but wouldn't know what I was looking for to tell if JDM or UK spec ?

Nope, the Solberg edition cars were 265ps, the solberg edition is what the WR1 was created from, it had a PPP which was slightly upgraded to produce 320ps (316bhp) over the standard 305ps (301bhp), thats the main difference power wise.

Nah you are not getting this, the WR1 is based on the Solberg Edition car which was 265ps, the WR1 had a PPP fitted which increased the power to 320ps, so its not factory power to start with
On the other hand if you look at the 2003 V-Limited (which is the JDM version they made to celebrate Petter's 2003 WRC championship) which is quoted at 280ps but pushes out over 300, mucho difference

Well no, it doesnt have that power out of the box, it has an after market PPP fitted to increase that power, if you wanted a factory car that produces that sort of power then the S202 is (was at the time) the most powerful car that Subaru produced

all wr1's come with the ppp as standard so they are 310+

Yes, they are quoted at 320ps (316bhp) but its not the standard output on that car, they dont have that power out of the factory, its like saying a modified JDM with 350bhp has more power because its remapped, plus the WR1 never made anywhere near the performance it was quoted at, the difference between the standard car with ppp and wr1 was minimal and the JDM's out performed them at every stage

Pity the poor OP!
There is a WR1 Owners' Club site if you want to be convinced you want one of those:
http://www.wr1oc.co.uk/
I was going down that route when I was offered a Litchfield Type 20 Blob, which is a 2005 model year JDM 2 litre car, imported from new by Litchfield Imports and fitted with upgraded suspension and I think a slight re-map ( anyone confirm please?) to take it to about 315bhp.
If you're looking for exclusivity and aren't in the financial league to go for the really rare factory special editions, there were only perhaps 10 or so Blob Type 20s made, so it makes the WR1 look a bit commonplace, and you get all the widetrack JDM bits too.
If you can find one, of course.
There were also a few Litchfield Type 25s for sale recently, but they have the American 2.5 litre engine rather than the JDM 2 litre.

The JDM blob type 20 would be circa 340 and litcho's made or modded nearer 100. He made approx 20 mk1 T25's and same converted. These used the US 2:5ltr Aprox 8 mk2 T25's and 15 converted. These use the Cossy engine. Be aware ther is a red WRX That's been converted to an STi Type25 Mk2 Cossy but not by litcho's IIRC
But be aware some listed asvT20's are just uk cars with T20 mods and not twin scroll JDM's. Because a MY06 type 20 will fetch £14-18K and a MY06 UK Sti PPP with T20 mods will be £6-11K. So you can see why someone may want to miss lead you.
Generally the JDM will have rear wash wiper folding wipers and goes like stink unlike the UK frauds don't. IMHO

Wow the JDM brigade are out in full force this morning
If you want a WR1 then get one. It never floated my boat but it is a good car and as a limited edition it will always command a premium and remain desirable. I've scratched a few car itches that even with regret I had to own otherwise I'd have still always wanted one.
Under normal or spirited driving you probably won't notice much difference between and a Widetrack UK. I had a UK Widetrack PPP model and I thought it was a fantastic car.
JDM cars of the twin scroll variety have a very different feel. Think surge rather than wallop under acceleration. Standard UK vs Standard JDM there is little in terms of on road ability but if you go for one of the lightweight Spec C models then you are going for a completely different car.
