Default New regulations regarding number plates ???

Hi Guys.
I've just done the MOT on my Classic Impreza and was told by MOT tester that my front number plate (sticker) is NOT legal now !

What size of number plate do I need than ??
I'll be looking into square shape one but there are few sizes :-(

Thank You

This should be what you're looking for, although it does skirt around the issue somewhat.

The websites of several number plate printers will also specify that your registration mark must be on an acrylic plate.

If your car is an import check this out.

I got my plates from them and had the front as small as is legally possible.

https://www.craigsplates.com/import-number-plates

If it's a UK car you can only have the standard size plate and font.

I bought the car in 2009 and already had a registration plate/sticker like that. None of the previous MOT testers ever mentioned anything about it... Till now :-)
Need to buy a new plate so if anybody could tell me the website and right size I can buy legal plate it would be GREAT.

Thank You

I'm amazed they have not banned the sale of on line number plates, you have to produce your V5C if you want one making up at a shop/halfords/local motor spares place, it was one of the reasons to stop illegal/false plates being made.

You have to send Craigsplates a copy of your documents for a road legal plate.

I had a problem ordering on the website so I read all the bumf about import plates. Found out the minimum legal size then ordered through this.

The length depends on your number plate characters but it'll be 90mm wide.

For a UK plate to be legal it needs the British standard mark and the name of the plate maker on it. 99% of the online plate makers state that they sell only 'show plates' to get round this.

The whole numberplate thing needs a sensible overhaul as it is way too draconian in some areas and too lax in others.

I have no issue with the plate size or size/type of lettering etc. but why it is you can only have an EU or country flag badge on your plate yet a car manufacturer's logo is illegal. That is just a stupid law designed to allow the police to fine you and nothing else.

In many EU states only the equivalent of the DVLA can make plates. Best option and stops people moaning about getting lifted by the fuzz for having Iillegal plates fitted.

At least I know it will be 100% legal because they make plates with DVLA regulations.

You should be fine with that - if you want to have "alternate" plates (ie stick on, smaller, etc), you should keep the Halfords plates you've bought store them until MOT time next year, and change them over as necessary. Of course, you run the risk of being stopped if you're spied with non standard looking plates.

F1_Fan is spot on when he says there are too many inconsistencies in the rules, which is illustrated by the chances of being stopped - some days you can drive past three police cars and not even be looked at, the next you will be jumped upon by the first copper who notices. It's a lottery, and it shouldn't be like that - but I'm willing to bet that is because some officers themselves aren't completely sure of the regulations.

Usually best not to take the chance in the first place, don't give the authorities any reason at all to single you out. But, each to their own, of course.

Hi. A bit risky by not having V5 while abroad.
Apart from UK all other EU countries require to have with you all car's documents while traveling through. It is by the law to have your insurance certificate, driving license, MOT certificate and registration certificate at all times while driving a car abroad otherwise you'll get a fine for not having one of them :-(
So you were lucky that you haven't been stopped by Police :-)
