Very easy to wire up although as above why?

Take a live ignition feed to one side of the light and the other side to the oil pressure switch.

Defo get a gauge, was told by my tuner that if your oil light comes on on the dash then it's already too late and your engine is probably fooked. Get a pressure gauge as an early warning system.

As Dan says, fit an oil presure gauge. Preferably one with a low pressure warning.
As above, if you see the light then 9 times out of 10 its too late anyway.

The stock oil pressure light/sender only needs a couple of psi at best to turn off. So you could be running low oil pressure and never know about it until its too late.

I usually call it the dead engine light.

Its not just Subarus...I'm current building up a mondeo ST220 engine that had ran low on oil....the oil pressure light never came on (we breifly ran it to diagnose the bad running). What happened instead was the timing chain jumped a load of teeth becuase of the lack of pressure on the oil-fed chain tensioner (hence why the engine barely ran), lucky really as if the engine had a cambelt the owner would have carried on running until it seized solid.

Same with my Land Rover - that did have a guage. Whilst off roading the oil pickup tube broke, it ran barely 5psi due to it sucking air. The oil pressure light never came on.

Lads, lads, you are going about this wrong.

We don't give out advice on here any more, we just tell the guy how to do it, and add a rider like, "It worked on my Escort...."

It's HIS car, after all..........

either works but where the oil pressure switch is fitted under the alternator is best.

Get yourself one of these -

http://scoobyparts.com/acatalog/LMA_...E_T-PIECE.html

And fit it where the original sender is under the alternator.

If the sender is small, it may not need the T-piece, just do away with the oil-light.
