Default compression results--- need specialist help

right.... i decided to compression test my car (2001 wrx) the out come was weird exactly 56psi in all 4 cylinders..

the car runs fine and is faster than other imprezas with the same or sometimes more power than me.

ive took it to a specialist to recheck the compression incase my tester was faulty, his tester gave the same results as previous..

now, my car shouldnt be running properly, let alone out performing other subarus with more power than mine.

im going to get hold of a leak tester next to check, but that still will not explane why

. my car still out performs others
. my car is still running totaly fine
. all 4 cylinders are leaking to the same extent

any help would be much apriciated....

Ross

Can't explain that myself but out of interest why did you do a compression test as if like you say it's running fine and out performing other cars because if that's right you're dropping 100psi on each cylinder.

Did you have the throttle fully open when you were cranking the engine over?

Yep, leakdown test would confirm potential problem area's - my guess would be poor seating on the exhaust valves.

but for the valves not to be seating correctly on all 4 cylinders and giving the same compression on all 4 cylinders is highly unlikley??

It can happen, things can ware out at the same rete. What boost does it run & on what fuel? Any mods & is it mapped for them?

I know what you mean, even new engines don't usually show exactly the same on each cylinder. Does it use any oil?

No, uses no oil as all...

The engine has been rebuilt at some time I presume. .
There is stickers on the back of the block going over where the head joins and also little yellow stick on thermometers...

Could anything of been changed internaly to give thies readings?

Nope we use a logo-ed silicone hose on the induction and external body stickers Other than that we only put heat sensitive tabs on our engines.

Somethings not right here.

A/ Did you try the comp gauge on another engine in case it is broken and only reads 56 psi no matter what ??
B / if it goes better than all the others despite only 56 psi then we'll do a group buy and do them all at the same time, cos they're all knackered [ Sorry ]
C/ If it ain't broke [ it doesn't seem to be ] then don't try to fix it.

If there is no smoke, no noise, no oil consumption, no water loss, I doubt there is much wrong.

Check the cam timing? Turbocharged cars can do funny things if it's out.
I can't think of anything else that would do anywhere near what you describe.
