To be fair I don't use my car everyday usually on a weekend so obviously less chance of the police saying anything and my argument is a motorcycle doesn't have a number plate on the front an round by me there are no forward facing cameras see what they say?

There is a loophole in the law that allows you to run a smaller plate, I think its a motorbike size plate if your car is an import and a larger plate interferes with cooling or something I have read about it before can't remember exactly what it is tho, but people have been given tickets for it and they have won the appeal and others just carry the piece of paper on them from the dvla web sight stating the regulation and the police have just let them go.
Have a google, the info is there somewhere, better than being told to take it off and paying the fines, I've just had a smaller plate made for the front of mine, so if I get tugged for it I shall let you know how I got on

Caught the eye of a Gendarme the other day as well - stopped me for a paper check, all good and then spent then next 10 mins or so chatting about cars etc. Nice lad and he stopped all the traffic so I could rejoin the road, which I did with a cheery wave and heavy right foot much to his amusement. Nothing they can do about foreign registered cars as long as they are safe to drive - only a UK copper can issue me with a fine and only when the car is in the UK - which it isn't, ever.
Not quite diplomatic immunity but does make you feel "special"
Think I'd go with a black on white 12"x3" (bike size) plate if I was in the UK and be prepared to pay the fine as they look so much better than the great big "airdam" of a standard one.

Not pi55ing on your fireworks mate, but the maximum permissible fine for non-conforming plates is £1000
I got a telling off from plod for a 'non-conforming registration mark'. Regular plate and typeface but the spacing was to my specification He wasn't impressed
Nice scooby BTW
