Default Picked up my new Scoob - A question or two

Hello all,

Just picked up my new Scoob, WR Blue 2003 STI.

I'll add some pictures later if people are interested but for now, just a question or two.

It has a Zunsport lower grille, this isn't particularly to my taste, but does it provide any sort of protection for the car? If so, I might get it sprayed black as I feel the stainless look doesn't match the rest of the car. I'd probably prefer it removed though, is this an easy job? Could it be done on a level surface without jacking or does it need a hand behind it?

The centre surround (around the stereo and the switches etc) is a little worse for wear and I want to wrap this, is it easy to pop off? I don't want to start tugging at it and it snaps something!

Cheers for any help you can provide.

James

zunsport sell the grill in black, if its a halg lengh one it just clips on, if its full lenght then it will have a few holes drilled that will be viseable when removed.

open cup holder and remove the two screws and pull out the cup holder and the stereo fascia will pull off

Hmmm, alright then. That's a bit of a pain, don't really want any holes visisible. This is the car http://i.ebayimg.com/t/2003-SUBARU-WRX-STI-Type-UK-Genuine-Low-Mileage-Standard-Car-/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/z/7QsAAMXQk-FRECSN/$(KGrHqN,!h0FDv9(Ok-!BRECSM6MJ!~~60_12.JPG

Not sure what would make it half length but maybe you could tell me from the picture?

Excellent, thanks for that Tubby.

I'll be contacting you soon for a great deal on rally graphix .

You could have something there. I guess I'd never be taking the wrap off so maybe paint is the way forward. Do like the carbon effect personally though.

May take the grille off then, I'll look into black ones but I think my favourite is without. Obviously would consider it if it provides some protection to the rad.

That's a fair comment! It is growing on me to be honest. I'll see.

Next question may sound silly . But the intercooler spray needs topping up, is ordinary trap water okay for that? Googl showed a thread with someone saying no but I don't know what else to use.. coke? Fanta? Lager?

Seriously though, the handbook says "pure water" which could mean multiple things.
Cheers all

Use britta filtered water .Norm water tends to clog the jets up.

Use distilled water, you can buy it buy the gallon for about a quid. Tap water will just cause lime scale.

One last question (yeah right!) what's the cheapest method of producing a spare key? 200 quid from the stealers ain't my idea of a good time. Can I get one cut and get a mapper to do it or anything like that?

I wrapped my center console the other day. IMO it looks a hell of a lot better.

This is what it turned out like.

Ah that is exactly what mine will look like! Think you've made my mind up on that one! Unless you have any pictures of plastidip Scooby Sport?

Sorry, by paint I meant powder coated . I'm swaying towards removal at the mo though.
