Short shifter ? you get what you pay for ?
So,for a pre-facelift classic, is it worth paying top money or are the cheaper ones just as good ?

The CDF one is a different thing altogether, as its adjustable as well as shorter (in height and throw). The feel of the thing is also different as it does feel a lot more positive and direct, its basically tighter (better made).
The cheaper ones (there is no difference apart from price) do the job, they do it the same as the CDF one, but its more like the standard one in that there is a ever so slight slack. Easiest way to describe at a basic level is the cheaper ones feels like it needs to be tightened up a tad more when fitted.
If you can afford the CDF one then I'd go for that, as the feel is better, and the fact you can fine tune it (could with mine with 2 allen keys on the shaft) makes it a little better.
My ONLY criticism with the CDF one, is the gear ****. I wasn't a fan of the one supplied, but I did have a Tegiwa plastic one which feels awesome.
But if your not really bothered, or want to try what it feels like before getting a more expensive one, then get the cheapy one, cheaper the better as even they will make a lot of difference.
Just be careful when changing gears, as you don`t have to move your hand so fast with the shorter throw, it has been known to change it too quickly so damaging syncros etc.

I bought one of those blue ones that you posted up in your first 2 posts and it was crap. The actual stick was held in at the bottom with a metal circlip and this kept popping off all the time. This meant that the gearstick was actually loose because it wasn't held in at the bottom. I tried replacing the clip but it still didn't work properly so I eventually changed it back to the original gearstick.

I dont think its worth paying the extra for.
In my opinion your better off with a cheap version and then invest in a set of uprated shifter bushes.
I opted for a £30 shifter off ebay and a set of AS performance shifter bushes. Money well spent with a total cost of £100.
The RCM one is £325, I mean come on if thats good value then I'll eat my hat. No doubt its a well made bit of kit but even so, its an awful lot of money.
Whichever kit you go for id deffo spend the extra on a bush kit, it tightens up the shifter and transforms the feel.
