Default Taking my car to Alan Jeffery....

....tomorrow for a service and RR. As it's going for a RR I obviously want to make sure that it's as ready a possible but apart from a full tank of fuel (done last night with Tesco SUL), what else can I do that the service won't do anyway?
The service is a basic fluid and filter with cambelt change.
Many thanks,
Paul.

Nothing really, if ET are servicing it before you go on the rollers they'll check your car over and make sure she's ready. I think they've done this once or twice

Enjoy mate and good luck

Well, the reason I wanted to take it there was entirely because they knew wht they were looking at. I just didn't want to make a newbie mistake like not checking there was fuel in it
But thanks anyway
Paul.

Engine Tuner / Alan Jeffrey are well trusted amongst the Impreza faithful, your in safe hands. Martin knows his stuff, and whenever I have used them in the past they've done a great job on numerous cars I have had (not just Imprezas).

As long as it's got the best fuel you could get, then just sit back and relax. Service will make sure everything is healthy (apart from any damage) engine wise, so you've done the right thing in that respect.

I will be taking mine down to get the new coilovers fitted and a cambelt service done in a couple of months

Well, a mixed bag really!
Service was ok although it needed new rollers for the cambelt and the aux. belt also needed replacing.
A list of comments came about too, some of which I knew about and some not:
-No rear fog light (JDM rear clusters I assume)
-Rocker covers leaking (common problem I hear)
-Both rear trailing arm front bushes worn
-Front and rear link bar bushes worn
-No split pin in O/S/F ball joint
-Front tyres near legal limit
-Rear discs worn
-Chip on front windscreen
-Bad clutch judder (paddle clutch fitted)
-Front and rear screen washers not working

On the RR it pulled 240bhp@1.7bar boost, Martyn decided it would be safer to dial it back to 1bar resulting in 226bhp.

I don't know what to do now. It was said I could get the whole car rebushed for around a grand fitted. Just wondering if I want to spend that on a car that cost around the same to buy
Are the above suspension issues dangerous? Suspension is not something I've ever really dealt with before.

I guess I'll fix the washers and sort the tyres, then probably sort the rear brakes and see how I feel about it after that.

Hi! Sorry I wasn't there to see you today.
It's all about prioretising. As you say, tyres first, then washers, that makes it legal. The bushes are always arguable on MOT and of course they are better off being pukka. Naturally we point out what we see, that's the point of checking it all out. I doubt it's dangerous, more like the effect of natural deterioration. I'll check with the chaps tomorrow about the actual condition, and give you a call. Changing all of them is pricey, nice if you can run to it of course!
1.7 bar is a lot! Good call from Martyn I'd say.
Speak soon..

TBH I'm actually quite happy that the above list is all there was Alan, and I'm happy that it's come from your reputable company as apposed to Chump & Chimp from KwikFit.
Regarding the boost wind down, I've never chased bhp figures and it actually drives a lot smoother now

Excellent!
I recall one guy who came in with an RS Turbo many years ago which was wildly overboosting. Naturally I sorted it out and told him what I'd done and why I'd done it. He came back and complained that it had lost power! It took me ages to explain why I didn't want to leave it at 1.8 bar when it could only stick 1 bar, and even then I don't think he believed me.
