Default Blue Smoke????

Car seems to be running fine but on the odd occasion it smokes blue, it only seems to be when im stationary for a short period of time then when i start to move it clears itself??
Any idea what this could be?

edit: when stationary and i reverse through the smoke it stinks of burning oil

Have you got the original turbo on the car could be the turbo on the way out and passing oil,90,000 thats a good few miles the charger's done there,if your not sure take it to a specialist who should be able to diagnose the problem.I doubt it's the engine though,as usually when maintained at the correct intervals they are quite bullet proof.last word get someone who knows look at it for you.

Ive been through all the history and can see no record of a re-map only the ppp certificate. (ive never thrashed it though)
Also to add the blue smoke is only odd occassion, its normally just condensation smoke, wouldnt stem, ring seals be constant

Edit: i had a long motorway drive a few weeks ago and although i never saw any smoke i could smell burning oil then.

Have you checked for oil leaks? It may be leaking oil, hitting the exhaust and burning off thus making the blue smoke you see coming out the back of the car as you pull away

Rocker covers are a favourite place for the ej lumps to leak from

My 1st thought was an oil leak until today, it was coming out of the exhaust when stationary and i reversed through it. gonna strip and check the turbo tomorrow, hopefully the turbo as gone as it was on the list to be upgraded anyway

I had this on my bug wrx, Driving it was fine, never noticed it losing oil but when it was ticking over for a while it would smoke and smell of oil,
It turned out to be the turbo oil seals that had gone

Ok, check to see whether the inner tip of the exhaust is excessively sooty and whether theres fresh oil in the boost pipes

If its smoking on idle then most likely turbo. Remove the downpipe & look for oil residue

Your allways going to get some oil in any pipe work connected to the turbo as long as it's not excessive you should be ok in that department, that's why people run catch cans and so on.do the shaft test see if there is any movement or play more then a mm or so from the compresser side.

Side to side play isnt really too much of a worry unless its excessive, its more in out play your looking for, if the boost pipes are relatively dry and it dosent smoke whilst the cars boosting then i wouldnt say its the turbo tbh, its more likely stem seals etc.

When your sat in traffic for example and you pull off do you get a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust, same as when you start it first thing in the morning does it blow a bit of smoke?

I hear ya but I've had turbos start to pass oil and when I check the play in the shaft ist side to side. I know you get a little side to side play but if he had up and down excessive play the turbo would be junk and he would be blowing smoke all the time especially when driving or accelerating.

As I said previous it's hard to judge your problem as it's just words over the Internet,so if you have a specialist that you can get to get a first hand opinion.
