Default Fuelling the RB320 - chuffed

I know Scoobs like a drink but having owned my RB320 for a few days I am chuffed with the fuel consumption. I filled up (97 RON) when I picked it up and now have just over a quarter tank and so far have done 196 miles on this tank. Not sure if it is 6th gear that is helping or my (generally) delicate right foot but that is better than our Honda CRV 2 litre petrol 4x4!

97 ron? The 2.5 engine will not like that one little bit. Especially if its bp. Shell vpower or tesco ultimate always.

97 RON agreed by the way, get something 98+ as recommended.

I would usually get around 240 miles from a tank with mixed driving on my Hawkeye PPP. My record was 350 miles on a single tank all motorway.

I managed a similar figure from my Blobeye PPP and around 320 miles once from my Bug.

My current ride is Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes see nearly 30mpg on a long motorway run but if you put your foot down it will drop into single figures.

Feeling the love boys, the difference between 97 and 98 is slight (subaru recommend 98 but it will run grand on 97, 95 would be a bit weak), the ecu can look after minor 1 ron differences in fuel (equates to maybe 1-2 degrees in timing and knock correction will be very capable of sorting), if he is getting good mpg he obviously isnt ragging it neither so the facepalms are kind of ironic.
Ref the OP, the last quarter disappears quicker than an 80's superstar when he hears the woowoo's.

Hi,

message to new owner/O.P.................

97 is no good for your scoob, 98 is a bit of a push, you must run these cars on 99 octane, preferably V power or Tesco's 99, other wise if used in anger you will knock a piston land off.

You have purchased a thoroughbred racehorse, feed it good corn and it will perform, feed it crap it will get flabby and quickly fall ill.

Trust me we have seen it on the dyno many times, cars with certain mods not producing the expected figures only to find the tanks full of 97 or worse, drain it and re fill with V power and alls well.

cheers

I didn't know that. Originally always ran my WRX on V Power but the company I work for changed locations. Ended up using Sainsburys Super and the car seemed to like it. Ran fine.

Have ran my STi PPP for the last 3 months on the same thing, and again the car runs fine on it.

After hearing your advice, I will however be making the 12mile or so round trip and filling with V Power.

So what if you are planning a road trip to France, where most "super" is 98 ron ?

You need to plan WAY in advance and carry cans in the boot, or even better just cancel or the cars just gonna give up the ghost and die

On a serious note I was thinking the same as what is the norm if you do a trip to the ring?? Aint the fuel out there suppose to be shît but there is a garage near the ring that sells 101ron is it? Or something like that I read somewhere

or Northern Ireland where the highest we have is 97 ron.

Enough with the face-palms already ! at least he didnt use 95 .

As Brendy said , the needle is so unpredictable too , i would hold judgement until you need to refill

I would never use them because I have been told they're bad for engines but what about octane boosters?
