Default Speeding Ticket?

Ive been asked the question if you can find if you have been done for speeding before you get a ticket through the post.

My mate was coming down from Glasgow the other day where there were fixed camera on a gantry above the motorway with the dotted white lines in each lane. He is just wanting to put his mind at rest if he is going to get done or not

Andy you only find out when you get the ticket why worry about it if it comes it comes, they are usually quite quick in posting them out.

As I said mate. The gantry has to have the speed limit illuminated on the lanes in order for the cameras to be active. If the sign was off then fear not as the camera should be off

If hes been caught the ticket usually comes within two weeks. If it's past that I wouldn't worry

Ah isee so the cameras on motorways that have them for each lane on top of them poles, when the variable speed limit is shown, I.e 50 etc, then the cameras are on? And when the variable speed signs are off, I.e national speed limit, then they are switched off?
There's a few on m1 leister/Nottingham area where I've seen loads of people doing past speed limit so I've joined them and never had a ticket.

I've been through the same ones as Busta on the m1 many many times in the truck, the signs have been on 50, but I've always sat on the limiter (56) not had a ticket

That's correct. Or at least that's been my understanding for the last few years. I've never been ticketed for going under them just above the limits when there switched off.

Unless the speed he was going at was more than what a normal ticket can be issued for. I.e a Court summons takes alot longer to be served

I've seen people blazing through them all the time even with variable speed set, when variable speed is on then yes I stick to it and follow vehicle in front but other times I've blazed it through (not going to admit speed) and never had ticket.
So I would like it confirming so it could explain better to me, that I'm thinking right, others must know too as to why people pelt it through too.

A little birdy told me that if you are a regular driving through at speeds on a regular basis then you get a ticket? But don't know if that's true. As the camera logs the number plate and keeps it on log and if it's seen on a regular basis doing similar then that's when you get ticket, but IMO that's a lot of work to be doing.

Ain't got a clue how they really work, have spent hours and hours on this searching for answers ( usually when parked up at night in laybys)

Personally I've always used the 10%+2 rule and never had a ticket , so at a guess maybe that's the leeway that they do give?

Trust me it gives more leeway than that when it's been on nsl, try 3 figures and no ticket, but don't drive that way very often, just occasionally

O hell yeah when it's on Nsl then it's a free for all, but when it's limited by the overhead signs, I've always been at least the 10%+2 over , once the trucks up to speed on the motorway, the cruise is switched on at max and just left there

Same with the average speed ones on the 62, that's been at 50 for at least the last 12 months and I've come through on the limiter every time and not heard anything?

But then the postman could be bringing me a shed load of bad news pretty soon!

I think I've Sussed the ones on the m62

If you drive along there at night, there's only 2 of the cameras that have flood lights next to them that illuminate the white lines in the road, so I reckon that there's only 2 active cameras on the whole stretch

As above though, I could be totally and utterly wrong and maybe even have a ban winging its way to me now

Pmsl yeah your right, but what if the others are just timing your speed and when you get to the floodlights, that's where it takes your mugshot lol, I'm a local nr m62 so I'm not going to risk it although I think 60 is fine

I was on the M6 Toll in April heading south and signs were showing 60mph but as the road was clear and dry I stayed at 70mph and still got a ticket for doing 70 in a 60 :-(

I was also on the M25 the other week in my truck where there were 60, 50, 40 signs on the gantery and there were cameras on the ganterys too. All though I stuck to those speeds cars & trucks were still flying past me so do they know something I dont?

I've never understood that myself. When out with the Civic lot, we were going 70 odd down the M25 when it said 50 and none of us got anything. I think it depends what colour the flashing lights are?

My initial thought was that it was if there's a speed limit displayed, the cameras are activated. But as you've said that, I'm not sure.
