Default wrx sl

Hi, can anyone tell me what a 2006 wrx sl 2.5 is, I have seen one which has leather, xenon's and a prodrive spoiler on the rear. Where does it fit in the range and what will it be like performance wise? I have only had a quick run in a 2003 type uk so will it be anywhere as quick as that?
Sorry if this is a silly question
also what are they like for home maintenance (I'm a ex mechanic)

It's a wrx and not sti, basically the younger brother to sti, SL is just the equipment that it comes with sunroof and leather which most don't have, and it's got the 2.5 engine unlike the older 2.0
Hp wise probably about 225hp stock, well the 2.0 is anyway so won't be much diffrent.

A type uk you mean sti I would of thought? A sti type uk is 265hp and wrx is 225hp
The sti has a stronger box-6 speed and wrx has 5 speed which can take power upto 350ish as the sti box can take a lot more when it comes to modding

I like the idea of a sti but if I got a wrx would I notice the difference in power plus I'd possibly have to look for a older sti.

Depends on your power hike your looking to achive, as you get this Subaru modding itch, I have the wrx SL wagon and it's running 340+hp, I needed a wagon.
But it's best to start with an sti as is got all running gear on ready for modding.

There seems to be a lot more wrx's about with lower mileage and reasonable prices, I guess I need to have a think whether I want a newer wrx with lower mileage or a older sti

Yep that's right, wrx is only missing the 6 speed box and Brembo brakes and a slightly better engine, but it all depends on your needs, the STIs are more money for this reason, if you are looking at a 2006 then my advice would be to try find a 2003on sti with the 2.0 engine as its stronger than the 2.5 and lower tax bracket, or save a bit more money and buy a 54on sti as they have Widetrack and dccd but your looking at around £7k ish
Good luck.

Its missing a fair bit more than just the engine, 6 speed and brakes, the 2 are completely different mechanically, if you started at the engine then you can say you are missing the bigger intercooler, you are missing the front LSD of the STI (the wrx has an open diff), the suspension is different along with all the bars etc (thicker and alloy v not as thick and steel), it really is a different ball game even though they may look similar they certainly are not underneath (and the seats are waaaaay better in the STI )

I have the 2007 wrx sl, fed up of everyone having the same styles. Heated leather seats are a god send in the winter and sunroof is superb in summer which is usually only one day lol.

I had mine running 355bhp for almost a yr before the front diff started squealing so just went 6spd set up.

The wrx is more refined for daily driving than the sti but the sti has more goodies, brembos,6spd etc,

Also wrx is usually cheaper to insure so if u do go sti then get insurance sorted out first.
