Hi,
So if i didnt have enough for the for my ideal blob eye widetrack but saw a good P1 would people say these are a good car or not? I have always liked them being 2 door and being a ltd ed. i would expect them to hold value well. Is there anythings to look for in particular? or any common faults? what would you guys expect to pay for a fsh, well looked after P1 with 58,000 on the clock?

They are cracking cars mate especially if looked after properly and kept in good condition value varies on condition and service history, also the WR cars command more due to the upgrades. I would avoid the cheaper cars and go for a car with a good solid service history and is owned by a proper enthusiast, that way you are less likely to end up with a lemon that's been thrashed and will cost a bomb to put right when I was searching for a P1 I made sure that the car had had its engine rebuilt using uprated components to save myself a rebuild bill. You should join upto the p1woc and have a look around on there, full of very helpful people and will help find you the right car





I might be selling this in the new year if I can convince myself to part with it

i have seen a few with engine rebuilds, is this a common thing? the one i have seen looks well cared for and has full subaru specialist history but no rebuild with 58,000. what is the problem with the map?

The p1 had the same map as the Jap imports and our fuel is/was not as high a octane as there's, some P1's had a gadget fitted into the tank (broquette) that was suppose to increase the octane in the tank....

A rebuild is not a certainty on these cars as long as the standard engine is remapped for our fuel it should be fine, but I would suggest looking for a car that's had it done just for piece of mind alone plus down the line you may want to go for more power

thanks for the helpful responses LJF, i will think about what you have said and know it would be safer to find one with rebuild as i would literally cry if i had one that went bang after owning a while! Like i say it wasnt my first choice but have seen one that looks a good price with FSH but no rebuild. Where would be a good mappers to have it adjusted to our fuel and what kind of price would we be talking? would it affect the performance, what would happen if i ran it on 99 octane, does this make up for it or not really?

well its £6750 but open to offers and i have already put it out there to him that my budget is more like £6k and he didnt say no straight away so im hopeful it could be done if i went there with the cash. Just found out it has some bubbling on one rear arch so need to consider that.
If i were to get a classic or P1 with some bubbling what ball park figure are we talking (per arch) to have it properly sorted and sprayed back up?
ps. your P1 looks beautiful LJF. why are you thinking of selling?

Had both my rear arches done on my integra dc2, cut out and replaced and painted, I paid £250 and the job was mint,

But I was doing his accounts at the time so think I got a good deal to be honest, gives you a ball park figure tho

It's a couple of hundred quid to sort the arches out but you will need to check all round the car inside and out for other rust spots. It becomes expensive having to sort little niggles like rust spots etc hence why I would suggest not buying a lower valued P1, it's cheaper for a very good reason


Tbh I am still unsure if I will sell it or not as this car means so much to me but I fancy a change after 11 years of Subaru ownership I would like to scratch other itches and get a car that I can use a every day any weather bit of fun. I have only done 2k in the P1 this year and it just sits in the garage waiting for nice weather as I refuse use it in the rain or winter seasons as I want to keep it in show condition

I have had mine for 10 years and even though I have tried to sell it a couple of times noone wanted it so I have decided to keep it. My arches need doing and where you are getting 250 quid from I dont know!! That is the only thing that needs doing and will fully re-spray the car and once that is done it will be a minter as the interior is bang on good. Totally standard engine a few nods but apart from that it looks and drives great. Rust is a problem for sure and every P1 over time will rust its the way it is.

Most of the engines go bang due to failing oil pumps it seems and not down to engine mapping. A P1 will run on unleaded as mine has done for the last 75K with the odd super for motorway runs. its not only P1's that have suffered this, its part and parcel of Subaru ownership it seems. Always a arguement about getting a non rebuild vs a rebuilt one, swings and roundabouts, but you can buy a fully re-built modded one for the same money as a standard one but unless you are a techi and know what has been done and trust the company that re-built it then you are as much in the dark as anyone.

I am loathed to get rid of mine but recent redundancy may force my hand. I owe nothing on it and have nice new bilstein suspension and P1 Eibach springs to go on it in the garage. Its been a truly wonderful car. I live in wales and do the mid wales run a few times a year and its a car built for that place and never ceases to bring a smile to your face. Hope you find a nice one. I would go for one with 1 or 2 owners on it as you know it has been well looked after.

I would estimate more like £400 per arch to get rid of the tin worm properly. otherwise it will return quickly if not cut out.
