Type R would be cheaper option to the P1, and more focused.

well i think around standard at first then go to around 400, then who knows when i get bored of that lol 400 will be a dead cert though, will be used on track too so want it to be reliable.

They have DCCD on the jdm blobeyes as well and also on the wide track version of the uk car from 05 onwards I believe, certainly makes for a more interesting drive if you forget to flick the switch back

My answer Bugeye STI - cheaper than Blobeye with the same tuning potential. Newage will see 400bhp on standard engine and has the 6 speed gearbox. Leaves you money for mods to get it there.

P1 - Over-priced for what it is and will need a engine rebuild with forged parts (or a Newage engine transplanted) and a gearbox conversion to the 6 speed (or PPG, or SC gearset) to get to 400bhp.

Its expensive to get any Classic to 400bhp - I know (2.1 & 6 Speed done, saving for ECU to run the billet MD321T sat under my bench at work).

Newage - just turbo swap and a re-map!

Depending on what you start with, anywhere north of £3K.

Well say i blew it up on track so needed a new block as a worste case type thing, would it be worth replacing and forging or does a newage bolt straight in? and what sort of price is a 6speed box? and again do they go straight in?

If the blocks gone then start from scratch and £4+K.
Newage engines do fit but the loom and many bit's will need changing.
6 speed are +£1500.

Or you could always just use a newage short motor and use your existing heads etc, at least you will have a decent starting point without having to fork out for a rebuild, depends on what your aiming for I suppose as if your gonna want to push the boundaries of a newage motor then there is always a chance that it will let go and still have to fork out for a rebuild, so you my as well keep the small change from the newage motor and put it towards build costs as I'm sure there are many on here including Ian above who have taken on such a project and can tell you that their money pits if you really wanted to go for it

There are many newage motors running 450/450 on stock internals, some have even tipped 500 but for how long is anybody's guess, suppose its nice to sit there and not have to worry about "what's that noise" that you get with a decent built motor

Firstly i'll say it can be done cheaper and you may get away with it BUT your looking at circa £10k to get a reliable 400+ in a classic.

Decent built motor £4/5k ,
Turbo £600 to £1500
ECU £1200
oil cooler £400
FMIC £700
suspension £800
Roll bars and bushing £500
Brakes £500 minimum
6 Speed dccd £1500+
gauges £300 minimum
clutch £500+
fly wheel £300
Exhaust £500+
Cage £400+
Seats and harness £400 optional
Fuel system £300/£1000 dependant on spec

Theres £8k in that list and that's without labour, it's not all essential but that would be my bare minimum spec, if you want it to last be reliable and safe.

You can save money on some parts and fitting if your handy, but if your not theres a good £2k in labour to fit that lot easy.

My choice would be either a car that's already got most of that stuff done to it, otherwise buy a newage STI and mod it slowly over time, but as a newb to scoobs it's gona cost ALOT.

You don't say what your budget is or how deep your pockets are, i'd think long and hard before i jump if i were you, much cheaper just to buy a cheap track toy like an MX5 and ragg the *** of it till it breaks then buy another.

Cool, cheers guys, dont really have a budget on modding as it will be done over a few years, its still going to be a road car too so not going to go completley crazy on it...

All the parts listed above seem reasonable, ive only ever owner ford RS's and parts for those are silly money due to RS tax! (ipaid £700 for a second hand exhaust! Fuel pumps are around £1500 lol) and like i say ot will be dont over time....

A near standard Type R will feel quick on track with its low ratio gearbox (so will a RA). A Type R or RA would be a good starting point. A version 5/6 with a remap, exhaust etc to circa 330bhp would be good fun and not too expensive.
However, to build a track monster then a newage is probably a better starting point as you have most of the goodies already fitted - 6 speed, Brembo's etc. unless you really want to start going to town on it.
I have a V4 Type R and have changed to Brembo's and a newage 6 speed gearbox. These alone cost about £2500, so modifying these cars isn't cheap.

Insuarance isnt brilliant, with a few mods (exhaust, induction kit, coilovers anti-roll bars and a remap) is guna cost me £1300 fully comp on a type R, P1 puts it up to £1900!

I was just thinking that it may be worth you buying one already up at the BHP you want. Over two years thats a minimum £2600 of money not on modding.

From you original post it appeared you were looking more track focused, but as it's a daily with occasional track use, i would say definitely go for a newage STi, bugs and early blobs around the same money as a decent type r, and make for a better starting point for modding, classics are great as a second car, but i wouldn't have one as an only car and track it, unless you have lot's of spare cash in the bank.

sorry i havnt explained properly, the scooby will be a second car, but will be used on track as much as i can afford to lol, i have another car as a daily so if the scoob does blow up its not the end of the world but id rather spend a bit before to make it last rather than blow it up and spend alot if that makes any sense lol

In that case go out and find an already track prepared car. It'll save you thousands as someone else will have done the hard work (spent the money) already

A classic RA or a Type R should fit the bill very well. As would a Bug (if you don't mind the looks!)

Id like to as like you say would save me a load, but then i wouldnt be able to insure it lol so it would then be a sole track car....

Keep seeign the bugs at a good price, but i wouldnt be able to live with myself if i bought a car that looks like that lol

I'm not a huge lover of the bugs in standard trim, but there are a few that look the part IMO

Now frayz's one, that I would have any day of the week
