Default Prerequisites before a remap

Hi guys,

I'm looking to get a re map done next year and was wondering which parts I need to buy to get the best out of it. I'm not mechanically minded but have read you really need to replace/upgrade some components pre mapping

Cheers

What car, year, model, how much to spend? If the car in your scoobynet garage, then new exhaust system, panel filter, 3 port boost solenoid for smooth boost ( may not be needed). Saying that, what turbo does the 2004 wrx have? Is it a tdo4? If so get yourself a vf34 if you have the money. Make sure your clutch has plenty of life left in it and make sue you hav a friendly mot station if going fully decatted exhaust.

And try and go to a recommended mapper!! That will do a custom map

Oh, and dont forget a better fuel pump!

Bigger fuel injectors if going all out for a bigger turbo

Thanks apac, yeah it's the one in my garage, 2004 WRX Turbo. If you get time can you post some links to the parts you'd recommend? Also any recommended mappers anyone knows would be great - I'm in Wrexham North Wales

Thanks again

Try somewhere like scooby world for a exhaust system, same for 225lph fuel pump and panel filter.

No time to post up links, sorry.

You will need a budget of £ 1500 - £ 2000. To do things properly, to gain about 60 bhp and equivalent torque.

There are plenty of respected scooby oufits that will do you a package, but i am not sure who is near north wales

You turbo and fuel injectors stop you going further, potentially your clutch and gearbox too.

I once drove from cardiff to darlington to meet up with him at his home. My brother also did the same pilgrimage. He rubbed shoulders with many big name racing drivers and was a guru on this site. I know he went through ill health some time back but this news has bowled me over. ****!

Try looking up scoobyworld, scooby clinic, api engines, powerstation. All of these will probably do you a package, but you do have to travel for these things.

whatever mods you decide on do them all at the same time.Otherwise every time you add mods it will require a map tweak @£100 approx per tweak if not more.
Turbo
Boost solonoid
Plugs
Ported headers
Uppipe
Pink injectors
Sri tmic & undertray
I have probably forgotten something but the above is a good start anyway

Aside from the mods its also worth making sure its upto date service and maintenance wise.

Decat and remap on your car will see upto 280bhp and 280lb torque and transform it, not just power and torque wise but smoothness and throttle response wise.
Its easy to get carried away an change the turbo and injectors and spend a lot of money when 280 would suit perfectly.

Hi jolly, yeah I don't really want to be changing the turbo etc, what you described would suit me fine! which part upgrades would you suggest for the decat + remap?
Cheers

btw, JGM above is a very well respected mapper. Probably worth contacting him.

1. Fully decatted exhaust system, something like. Scooby worlds ninja system will do the job,, There are so many out there, everyone has their preference. If you want something a bit more civilised then a Miltek system is good but a bit more expensive. £500-£800 2-3hours labour
2. A GREEN cotton panel filter for your air box £40 fit yourself
3. You may need an uprated fuel pump walbro 255lph £70 fit yourself or 1 hour labour
4. ECU software licence(ecutek)and a mapping session with good mapper£600ish Mapper will sort the software for you.

Speak to Jolly GreeN Monster..

To be honest, i would acquire all the bits you want and have them all fitted the day before the remap as you don't (in the ideal world) want a bunch of mods without a remap imo!
