Water getting in, leaky rear window/boot seal?
I've had this problem since I bought my car (1999 uk turbo 2000) almost 3 years ago. (yeah, i shouldn't have kept ignoring it!)
Basically the boot is filling with water and I can't figure out where from.
The boot carpet got wrecked, and there is water marks on the side trims. The wheel well is full of water, and I've recently found out that under my rear seats is getting wet too.
It's not coming in from around the lights, and under the boot seal never feels wet. I've also put loads of silicon on the boot seal too.
The rear window seal has lifted quite a lot (it's plastic though, not rubber, so why has it lifted up?) and I noticed condensation on the inside of the window after a frosty night the othe day.
So, could it be the window seal that is leaking into the boot and under the seats?
How do I get it replaced? Auto glass?
Thank you muchly x

Mine was the rear lights, I didn't think it was as they felt dry, I had to sit in the boot with a torch and get someone to spray the car with a hosepipe to see, another popular leak is the spoiler holes, Wouldnt have thought it would be the rear window, even damp in the front will cause the rear window to steam up, so the wet boot will cause this as the damp will rise throught the rear shelve

If you dry it out, does it start filling up from one side, e.g. below the jack storage? If so there is a seem somewhere possibly the inner and outer wheel arch skins which corrodes and leaks water, so spray from the wheel on wet road fills it up, when it gets higher and you corner it starts to fill the wheel well.

The places it leaks into the boot from, are, in order of likelihood:
Rear lights, (remove and reseat on a decent bed of CARAFAX)
Spoiler holes, (as above, with an unbroken ring of sealant round each hole)
Boot seal, (Lift and as above)
Rear screen, (this one needs the screen removed and refitted on new glue)
The little vents at the base of the rear wing outers, (they stick open, clean out).
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use sealants such as silicone, Tiger Seal, Sika-Flex etc to seal anything. They ALL set. CARAFAX is a non-setting mastic designed for bedding things onto the roofs and sides of caravans so that no water ghets in.
Plus, with carafax, should you ever want the part off again, it CAN be pulled off. Use of ANY other sealant will make it nigh on impossible to get the bit off....think minor shunt that cracks a rear light lens? Nightmare time
If it IS rear screen, removal of the rear parcel shelf, (rear seats out, that's five bolts and five minutes, then lift and pull shelf out, it sometimes sticks along the edges due to glue from the screen, but it DOES come out), will show a leak when sprayed with water, you can see it beading on the inside.
HTH
I've had four out of those five.....the only bit that HASN'T leaked yet is the little vents

If you want to find a leak, use a hair dryer from the inside, get a spray bottle with soapy water in it, spray it as someone is on the inside with the hair dryer, you should see the bubbles easy enough
