Check Engine warning light
Hi new to this Forum. Can anyone help me regarding the CHECK ENGINE warning light coming on on dashboard. Tried a Diagnostic check at my local mechanic but it would not register. How do i get it to go off and what could be the problem. Engine sounds like it is slightly missing on acceleration.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well could be a few things, common issue is the MAF on the MY99/00 cars, I would suggest not pushing it as it can cause engine failure if not sorted, but you need to take the car to a speciallist, if its missing it could be a bad spark plug or lead, even a coil pack (well that black thing on your manifold), so it will all need checking.
When was the car last fully serviced with spark plugs, air filter, all fluids etc?
Tony
PS, what area do you live in?

Would also suggest trying this:- (the plugs in the diagram so you can read the fault codes)

I had the MIL show on my car so I bought an OBDII fault code reader for £20.00 which diagnosed a knock sensor fault, so I disconnected the knock sensor, sprayed it with WD40, reconnected it, erased the fault code and it's been absolutely fine ever since. I can only put it down to it being damp where we have had so much rain and I don't drive it very often!

These cars are 7.5k/6 monthly service intervals (whichever comes first), it needs a service (and possibly a major one, 3 year cambelt change as well if you like your engine )
A few places near you to get your car looked at, go check out the essex crew in one of the other sections so they can point you in the right direction
