Default Anyone done the DIY mudflap thing?

First off - i am not a skinflint but i am not paying £50+ for some mudflaps.

I have seen some 4mm thick material from a rally outlet on eBay, that leaves me with the option of how to make some brackets.

After a quick google search i see the internet is awash with other Impreza owners who have done something similar - from the US mainly

https://www.google.co.uk/search?oq=s...za+diy+mudflap

Has anyone on here done anything similar & what did you use (from my google search people have used Ikea cutting boards!)

I am interested in longevity, if they are going to fly off during my first drive down the motorway i wont bother. I am still not spending £50 on some off the shelf ones though

Mine are diy with no brackets , and havent fell off after 4years , except for bent one backwards off a kerb but it went back on ok.

Just the 2 screws with big washers. Ok , so they dont sit perfect (the rubber was on a roll so they curve a bit. But like u , i refuse to pay the money for "genuine" ones.

Makes me giggle that people will pay all that money for the car and then make mud flaps for the sake of less than £100 when its seen every day...

I bought the 4m stuff off ebay and made my own, I fitted them with 3 self drilling screws per flap and they are going strong and look spot on.

Hardly seems worth it by the time you have purchased the materials. Group buy here https://www.scoobynet.com/group-buys...group-buy.html £49 delivered. Just fitted a set - top value for money. They come with some genuine Subaru fixings etc.

Mine cost zero. Got the materials off a mate. And as for spending "less than £ 100" for four bits of rubber ? You are the people that make compaies charge stupid prices for simple things. As long as people pay near £100 , companies will keep charging it.

Each to there own but i would rather pay for a correct fitting set than make my own, The set i have fitted have stainless brackets and fittings and look bang on + can be adjusted for height.

For what it would cost me to buy materials and then my time involved i would rather buy them.

Where did you get the rubber from? I probably will end up
Going down the DIY route, it would (I assume) feel like getting dry bummed if I paid £50 for 4 strips of plastic/rubber - I refuse

Just by sight. 90 degerees side and bottom , round off the corner .Then at the top a slight slope into the body. Then use it as a template for the other side.
